Finding a Breeder is the Hardest Thing!?

I assumed i`d have a dog by now. I didn`t want a puppy. but after some failed tries at rescue dog and even older breeder placements I did a turn around. I want to start from scratch. While I puppy is not IDEAL i think i`d rather deal with the inconvenience of waiting for them to grow and the extra costs in hopes of getting a dog that has the right temperament.

BUT OMG! I know I want something fairly uncommon (moderate lab under 70, good for trying spots and jogging with me once old enough and "smart" for obedience) but man it`s hard. nothing. nada. most litters written off by questionable clearances or even females expected to be 70-80pds. ARGH! I`ve researched so many pedigrees i keep bouncing into the same names often :P

Maybe I`ll find a rescue before I find a breeder (or more like, i will find a breeder but it will be for my NEXT dog).

anyway this is just a vent :0

Of all of the breeders you've sent me (that do clearances!) I would not hesitate to get a puppy from them. I think they have what you are looking for. Perhaps not right this second though. Also, you might have to open your heart to black because that's the most common. I went with who I went with because she has the ability to choose exactly what I want based on experience, but also she had the right litter and I got lucky (I mean, besides all of the clearances, etc.) and I LOVED that she did Avidog. Being yellow was just luck.

Are those show breeders? Maybe you should look into field lines.

I don't think she's looking at show breeders.

i don't have great leads on hunt kennels that do all clearances. they are pretty hit and miss.

i also don't want a field line where they are very off standard and bred to be high high drive. i want a pet first.

So yes i actually have looked at mostly breeders who show and do some other venues. the top three mentionned by labradors are more competitive in obedience and such though.

It is difficult. I spent years going to shows, meeting breeders, looking at dogs, making contacts. There is nothing wrong with e-mailing breeders regarding what you are looking for and asking if they have or know of any other breeder who has an available dog. Be sure to give some background on yourself. The breeder we got Melody from networks with other breeders in her club/area (Iowa) to help place labs needing homes, i.e., owners passed, situations like that. Breeders network a lot and you may have some luck that way.

I have emailed soooo many breeders. on the plus side I have a copy paste of my little blurb now. I have also completed a number of breeder applications (and rescue applications). over and over again :P
