    Cheing fur and paws

    Hey everyone,

Can anyone relate too this experience. My old lab Cleo used to lie with me on my bed and she always let me watch her chew her fur and paws. She never hurt herself or had fleas, its just something she really loved to do with me. Does anyone else have similar experiences?

Usually it's some type of allergy, either food or environmental. So, if my dogs are doing this, I typically took them to the vet or tried a new food depending on how bad it was.

If you didn't see signs of damage to her toes or coat or skin then probably it was just what you say, some grooming she felt safe, comfortable, happy doing while she shared her time with you. Much nicer than what some male dogs and cats like to do while snug and cosy up beside you.

Or it's an OCD type of behavior.

It could be a self-soothing behavior, like chewing nails, playing with your own hair, rocking back and forth.
