    We’re thinking about another Lab

Hey all! It’s been a while since I’ve posted but not too much has changed. Daisy will be 9 in April and Lily our mini dachshund is 6.

For years we talked about getting another lab when Daisy was around 10 or so but we recently started talking about getting another lab sooner. We have plans to start a family in the not too distant future and it seems like a better time to bring in a third dog now vs later with a baby.

My husband is also starting to come to terms with the fact that Daisy won’t be around forever. The Cushing’s disease has really aged her and I think in his mind, her eventual passing might be easier to bear with another lab in the house.

    So are we nuts???

This is still in the planning stages for us, but I would love some breeder recommendations via PM, preferably in the Southeast, though I’m open to traveling further away. We are in Tampa, FL.

    Hope everyone is doing well!

    Thanks!

I think your reasoning is sound. As someone in the midst of puppy training- get one BEFORE you have baby to take care of. And hopefully Daisy can help train the new pup.

I also think have a second lab can be very therapeutic when the inevitable happens. After we lost Kimber, we were heartbroken. We were so fortunate that our new neighbors just happened to get a lab puppy around the time we moved in. Magnus was such good puppy therapy for us as we grieved.

Not crazy at all. Only you know when it's right to add another Lab to your pack.

The idea was the have Daisy "pass the torch" and hopefully be a role model for the new puppy.

I poke in here every now and again and knew of Kimber's passing. So sorry for your loss. Glad you were able to open your heart to another. Looks like you're having fun with Miss Stormy! Labs are the best therapy.

I think it sounds like the right time! I'm so glad that I had Bubba when our last lab passed. It doesn't make the heartbreak any easier, but I was a little more distracted by puppy antics. And at least I had a little furry body to cry into. Also I think it's a nice memory to have of your new pup and your old pup playing together and having known each other.

Not trying to sway you to get one but I do love all the puppies on the board right now!

You definitely know when it is the right time and sounds like you have thought this out well. BTW, I've been searching for some time now. Maybe you'll find a pup the same time we find a senior.
