With my puppy, Lido's breeder (in Georgia), she has different lines with varying amounts/qualities of health testing, accomplishments, and pedigrees. We simply wanted a nice quality pet, so the price was lower. Lido's mom still had genetic testing done (as did the stud from another kennel), just not as extensive as those she breeds for field trial/hunting competitions. What type of dog are you looking for - pet, field, or confirmation? My breeder doesn't breed for confirmation competition. Color? If you're interested, I can PM you her contact information. She won't have any litters available until next Spring/Summer.

Health testing should be the same across the board. No matter the litter. Now I find that hunting breeders aren't doing hearts consistently yet, but with that in mind, there should be no corners cut. There should be no "varying amounts/qualities of health testing" with one breeder.

Honestly, my search is finding mannny still don't do heart. And I am looking at kennels well known in the showing lines AND competition venue. heart is REALLY hit and miss - and causing me some anxiety on choosing. IF I cut out everyone that doesn't do heart i am left with very few kennels. especially if I ask for both parent (seeing some where the stud may have it but not mom).

Our breeder focus on preserving the English lines. The blood lines is what I focused on. There are several Labradors from one specific breeder in the town I live in, and I watched them grow up over the years. Now 5 of the 6 I know of have had the knees/elbows fixed, and one had a tumor in his head, and those were expensive dogs. So I came on here and reached out, and found Luna that way. I would rather pay a little bit more now, then have to possibly do more down the road. That being said, Any pup could have problems, And the cheapest lab in the world (Abbie, my chocolate was 50.00) lived to be 14 years old. I might have paid too much for luna (3,200) but it was my choice. Her mom was beautiful, and her dad is a champion.
I know most of my breeder friends are in the $1600 to $2000 range in California. Some high profile breeders get a lot more. I just asked a friend in Florida and she says $2000 is a good starting point for a well bred puppy there.
You should be able to find a good puppy that is in you price range, that has full clearances and has been raised correctly. Please feel free to pass prospective breeders past me too. :-)
$3,200? Or did you mean $2,200? I don't know anyone in California that charges that much for a puppy, except maybe a 'breeder' in the central valley that scams people. I will PM you.
Clearances should look like this, this is one of my gurls, and the Minimum that I do, and the heart clearance has to be a cardiac echo performed by a boarded cardiologist, not a "practitioner" or "specialist".

no matter what day I look....lab puppies under 1 grand
Honestly don't know how anyone COULD do it for less than $1500 if they've been breeding for any length of time and do everything right.
Try not to look at the price so much. Divide that price (assuming you are buying from someone who does ALL the clearances, has "depth" to the pedigree w/ regard to clearances, titles, etc) by 10 or 12 (yrs) and then tell me the purchase price is too much.
Gosh, I've lost (voluntarily) thousands in prospective income when I've had litters, because when I have litters, I'm either not leaving them for more than a couple hours or I'm hiring out help. When there are vet needs, it's almost always at night, so off to ER we go. There is nothing cheap about breeding, and the breeder bears all the risk up front. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Have a friend who just bred to a FC lose 7 of 8 of her puppies due to a freak issue during pregnancy that req'd c-section/ spay. I bet she lost $7000 on the "litter" in vet/ stud/ etc costs alone. MH titled bitch too.
BTW, that is a byb litter. No clearances, nothing.... used to be able to buy those for $50 out of the paper here too but are now $700-1000. THAT is NOT a place to look for a well bred litter.
