But the thing is if the PARENTS aren't champions, the rest of it is worthless. BYB's tout that the lines are full of champions and show that 5 and 6 generations ago, all these famous names are in there. What you want is the actual breeder you are purchasing from to be the one working with the dogs and the parents are the ones with the titles. Anything less is the so-so breeder trying to cash in on the work that other people broke their backs for.

There has not been a Dual CH since Hiwood Shadow in the 1980's. Pedigree: DC AFC Hiwood Shadow Hiwood Piper (sire) is in my pedigrees here but shoot.... that's 10 generations back now.

Not saying it's easy to get, but it's not exactly uncommon and all those Champions (or Grand Champions, for that matter) are not producing $3,200 puppies. I searched for Labs and Goldens for a couple years, and wanted puppies out of dual champions, with strong sire AND bitch lines and spoke with lots of well-known, respected breeders that are not only producing Champions, but Grand Champions with lots of high level performance titles (that are even more rare than CHs) and their puppies are about $700 - $1,000 less, and they do all of the tests, and then some. I'd take Shelley's offer to look up your puppy's parents' (and grand parents', etc.) tests and breeder and make sure that everything is on order.

There was a breeder 5 yrs ago who offered one of my current pup owners a pup from the breeding of their choice (lol, like you let a pet home choose the parents to be!). They were big breeders in OR. Puppy price was $2500 at that time... Fortunately the guy smelled a rat because orthopedics in the lines stunk (breeders did a lot of breeding on prelims of young dogs etc). Some people can obviously sell pups for whatever price. Buyers really need to educate themselves on using the OFA database, and not be in a big rush to get a pup.

Sorry, wrong terminology on my part.

    Ch/GCh+MH is what I meant.

Please tell us you are kidding? The so called ACA is reputed to be a sham registry for substandard dogs, most all being from so-called backyard breeders. "Vet checked" is NOT the same thing as veterinary health clearances. Amazing the number of folks that get scammed for big money or key in on bargain basement pricing because they don't do their homework, are impulsive and rushed about getting a pup, have no knowledge about what they are buying, have zero contacts with solid breed knowledge, or are just plain gullible / stupid.

Sad as it may be, lots of scammer "breeders" out there just waiting to score on the ignorance of others.

Many of the best breedings available are never advertised and go for way more than the prices cited in this thread.

Bottom line, DO YE HOMEWORK AND BUYER BEWARE.
