I decided I'd let my six month old Lab puppy, Presto, try sleeping outside of the crate last night. He's been potty trained for months, has always slept through the night and our last obstacle was waiting for him to outgrow the cat hole in the baby gate that keeps the dogs out of the utility room where the cat box is located, which was also accomplished, or so I thought. I got him really tired, taking him up to play in the snow for several hours. It all started out great with just a little cat harassment before he fell asleep at the foot of the bed. Within 30 minutes, he was off the bed and in his crate, sleeping directly on the cold, hard plastic instead of the warm, soft bed. And, that is where he stayed all night long (I only woke up 862 times to check). He slept until 8AM and that is when all hell broke loose! He bounced into the bed from the ottoman with my hiking boot AND my Susan Garrett 2x2 DVD case in his mouth. The hiking boot came from the utility room, which means that he can still fit through the cat hole...with a boot... He jumped on me, the cat and one of my other Labs, who was more pissed than I've ever seen him, whacking us all in the face with the boot and poking us with the pointy edges of the DVD case while stepping on my bare skin with his nails. Overall, some good and bad, and the final decision is that he's sleeping in the crate a while longer!

I laughed too but you actually very brave. I only started letting Molly Sleep out of her crate at night when she was around 18 months old
It sounds like he wanted to wish you good morning in only the way a Lab pup would!
Sorry, but that's hysterical! Lido, age 7 months, has slept outside his crate once, when my husband had a nasty virus and I slept with the dogs in the guest bedroom - with the door closed to avoid wandering. Lido stayed on his bed and slept like a rock, thank goodness. I was very lucky.
Are you sure he didnt jump the fence? That’s a lot to fit through a cat hole, lol.
We’ve let Stormy sleep with us recently. She stays on the bed, which is good. But she for some reason really, really likes to groom herself when she’s between us, which leads to a lot of motion and not as much rest for me! So for now, she gets bed cuddle time between her 5 am potty break and 6 am breakfast.
