Lark has lost her dang mind!

We have had Lark since she was 12 weeks old during which time she has never been a counter surfer, hasn't been a stuffie destroyer, and has been generally well-mannered once she got past the puppy stage. She is gentle with the grandbabies, just a sweet girl. Since Henry has arrived she has become increasingly naughty. She ripped the face off the Lamb Chop stuffie they got for Christmas, has been jumping up to get toys off the tops of the crates that I put up there to keep them out of reach (Ha! she says), and today she got up on my husband's desk and got an unopened bag of sunflower seeds, tore open the bag (and ate about half of that) and snarfed down all but 3 kernels of the 7 ounces of unshelled salted, roasted sunflower kernels. Calorie content about 1200 calories with 80% of the calories from fat. And salted. Sigh... So far she hasn't thrown up, hasn't been guzzling water, and I'm half afraid to go check the backyard for other output.

Henry doesn't really tear up stuffies and hasn't done any counter surfing. Larky must be trying to get him into trouble because we know she wouldn't do anything bad! She just doesn't realize that if Henry is in his crate and she isn't, that makes it a little easier to identify the culprit! Oh, Lark, where'd our sweet, obedient girl go?

I'm thinking you're going to find a cow patty in the backyard.

Yep...sounds to me like she may be a little miffed with Henry stealing some of the attention...and acting out...or maybe realizing she can get away with more than she'd previously thought. Clever girl.

She has been busted. Sounds like she is asking for more attention. Every time we bring a new pet home the dynamic and behavior changes. I hope you don't step in the pile of yuck.

It was a crime of opportunity I think as they get older, they think they know what you'll let them get away with.

Thor regressed for a while with Barley but things have settled down a bit. I think he thought, "oh we can do that now?" with things that the puppy still had some license on - things like randomly barking, picking up things that shouldn't be in his mouth (SOCKS, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE WHY ARE SOCKS SO TEMPTING?), begging a little too close to the dinner table. It's gotten better as Barley has learned better manners and we can reinforce good behavior together (except that stupid sock thing - neither of them chew but the smart little barley has learned how to tug open my drawer and he walks around with a ball of my socks in his mouth. And then thor finds the open drawer and picks his own pair).

I think it is an age thing, Sarah has always been good in the pet store. The last time i took her she took treats out of the lower bins. Sarah has terrible allergies and ended up with an ear infection from scratching after her treat raid.
The vet and tech thought was funny and cute that my sweet obedient little old girl has some spunk left in her.

The age old, monkey see, monkey do. What may never have crossed her mind before she's seeing and "trying out for size". It's happened here even with the seniors. They are great observers of each others, and our, actions.

Alas... (sigh!)... counter surfing is so hard to fix. I have best results with remembering to put anything edible or attractive out of reach.
