    CBD Oil for Dogs?

Has anybody tried CBD Oil? Georgia has always favoured her rear drivers side wheel and after a tumble over the holidays it seems to be bugging her more than normal.

We were thinking of trying this to help her.

Of course every website you google is trying to sell you stuff so they are in favour of it......
    Thanks Everyone!!

I am weary of all things that are claimed "to heal everything". I haven't tried CBD oil but if I understood right and Georgia's issue is arthritis I have been successfully managing this condition with Cookie for 3+ years with supplements + diet + exercise. If that is the issue let me know and I will write again what has worked for us.

Oban's Holistic/Integrative Vet and I discussed it at a time he was having some mobility issues but a switch in his TCM helped so much we just forgot about it. Vet was in favour of trying it, has other patients benefitting. I know where I could get it nearby

My understanding is that the THC type cannabinoid receptors in the dog are highly concentrated in the brain stem, and when they eat their owners' pot, they lock up and have muscle spasticity. Not a good thing for them. I think we are going to need to get cannabinoid receptor reversal meds like we do for opiates. (Unlikely!)

Anyhow, there is a controlled clinical trial going on at the U of Colorado School of Veterinary Medicine. They are studying the effects of CBD oil on canine epilepsy... but they probably have professor's there that know a huge amount about the clinical uses of the stuff. You might want to cruise their website and see if you can come up with some names and e-mail addresses to get their opinions.

Please let me know what worked for you. I am assuming that there is some arthritis going on and that when she goes out full tilt like she did a bit ago that she aggravates it.

On a side note since everything is wide open in Canada I bought a CBD Oil with a small percentage of THC. It helps me sleep through the night much better and I have been battling a bum knee for the past three years and it has not been as bad since I started taking a couple of drops before bed time.
    Thanks Everyone!!

CBD is our next go-to for Ursa if her med or homeopathics don't do enough for her epilepsy. (But Ursa is doing super well, so we hope we don't need to give her CBD.)

FYI, there's also a homeopathic cannabis to consider. Personally, we'd try the homeo first before the oil.

    Best wishes sent to Georgia.

    Here it is:

    1. Supplements
    - glucosamine & chondroitine (I used Flexadin for years, I am using Chondro Super now because it's much cheaper and I am getting the same results, but I doubt it's available in US and Canada - however I am certain you have many g & c supplements to choose from where you are)
    - turmeric paste
    - salmon oil
    - vitamin C (ester C)
    - vitamin E

    2. Diet
    - homemade diet based on meat, minimum carbs (from vegetables). No grain, no legumes, no potatoes etc. Carbs are known to cause inflammation.

    3. Exercise
    - Gentle, shorter but more frequent walks. Exercise is really important! Keep them moving, it maintains muscle tone and lubricates the joints. Also lots of swimming when the weather gets warmer.

    4. Keep the arthritic joint warm.

I just started taking this in December, Yay for legalization in Michigan. Basically I am taking a supplement that is half CBD, Half Tumeric, both are for reducing inflammation. Here is my experience with it. So I decided to try it to see what the hype was, I was getting to the point I needed to take ibuprofen every day almost. 2 things that really really helped so far was exercise including stretching and diet. The excercise and diet pretty much is identical to what Berna states. These have really helped a great deal in reducing pain.

However, there was still pain usually getting going in the morning or later in the evening. So I decided to give the CBD Turmeric supplement a try. They say take it in the morning, but I preferred to take it at night before bed. Ok, immediately the thing I noticed and have continued to notice. I have some of the most vivid and weird dreams. I still have these today. They haven't gone away over time. Many times I wake up laughing at the insanity of them. Anyway first day, didn't feel any different. Second day didn't feel any different. This continued, however after about a week I started to notice hey I don't feel as sore. After 2 weeks I notice I was able to do things longer, play piano and guitar. 3 weeks, I was able to play piano and guitar very long time and feel perfectly fine after. Before when I was done basically I just wanted to take Advil and then go to bed. I haven't taken Advil since the first week. Now I still have a continuous dull pain but I rarely notice it. I have missed a dose, no big deal, didn't like dramatically increase any pain. However, I didn't have vivid dreams on the once or twice I missed a dose. So for my personal experience it appears that this is something that needs to build up over time, and it probably takes time to remove from your system.

Anyway, I thought I would share my personal experiences.

Edited to add, mine is a 15% CBD. I forget the percentage of Tumeric. I get it at the local high end health food store that specializes in a lot of holistic cures and supplements. .

We have tried CBD on several dogs.
Wrigley with her epilepsy. Did nothing for her. But then again, none of the pharmaceuticals helped either.
Grace for spondylosis in her back. Did nothing for her. We just didn't let her over-exert, and then a rimadyl if she did. That worked better.
Grizzly for his arthritic elbow. Did nothing for him. But no pain meds really help it either.

I've tried it myself as I have a painful arthritic thumb. Didn't help taken orally or used topically in a salve. And honestly, being in CO where it's legal, smoking doesn't help it much either.
