I've come back with exciting news!

I am pleased to announce that after not having a dog for almost 9 months, I'm getting a puppy! It isn't a lab but you guys will always be part of my family basically. On January 20th I get to bring home my new pride and joy, Hanson the Border Collie!

It took me the whole summer deciding on a breed because I knew that the next dog I would get would be going to Dog Trainer school with me in September 2019. After picking the BC, I found a fantastic breeder only 4 miles from my house. I've visited him twice and my boss at Certified Canine Services helped me pick the perfect puppy temperament wise.

I am super nervous about bring home a puppy because I haven't had to raise one in 8 years! Tips are welcome! I know I have a great support system already because I work for 2 dog kennels and my boyfriend is ready to help as well, I just have thoughts running through my head. What brand food should I feed? (I'm stuck between 4health and Taste of the Wild) I can't for the life of me remember what ages the pup needs shots although I already have a vet appointment set up.

I missed you guys and sorry for the lengthy post!

    Welcome Back!

Wonderful news! I love Border Collies...can't wait to see him!

Usually you would stay with whatever food the Breeder is feeding him..you don't want to upset his delicate tummy.

They feed Taste of the Wilderness but send home food to mix with your own food to get him used to it. I probably will stick with it but I'm used to feeding 4health and trust it.

So happy to see you’re getting a new puppy! I look forward to reading more about Hanson. My puppy is now a week short of 6 months old and he has been so much fun. He’s super smart and sweet but BCs are supposed to be really smart, too. What fun you’re going to have!

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Congratulations! You must be a very active person. My only advice is to train right out of the gate. Man, those dogs are smart.

I wish I could but National K9 School For Dog Trainers requires your dog to be untrained. I can potty train and break play biting but that's about it! It'll be an interesting 9 months.

So happy for both of you. Of course, you know the rules of the board, tons of pictures.

I am excited to bring him home. I've been waiting so long!! We picked the mom we wanted to put a deposit down on in the fall and then we had to wait for her to take. The breeders are close friends now and allow us to visit whenever which is amazing because Hanson will know us before we bring him home.
The breeders are amazing. They have a vet come to the premises rather than carting all of the pups to the vet where they could potentially be exposed to something. They also start the potty training before they go home, which is a real plus, am I right? I know you all are lab people but if you ever decided to look for a Border Collie breeder, let me know! Haha!
