    Dog Trainer's School

I am nervous to say the least. I have been away from home for college before but it was only two hours from home and most weekends I came home. With this school I have to travel from NY to Ohio and be there for 6 straight weeks with no visits. I'm a homebody. I have always struggled with being away from home and while I'll have Hanson with me in Ohio, dogs are not allowed in the dorms. They are kept in the student dog kennel.

I guess I just wanted to get that off my chest without having to worry my friends and family. Thanks for listening!

You will do Ok. Ohio is a nice place, little boring. However a nice place. You might actually like some of the midwest. Cleveland and Akron areas are kind of rough. The rest is nice place. 6 Weeks will go by quickly. The hardest part will probably be going to bed when you two get separated.

I'm sure that 6 weeks will fly by with how much you'll be learning each day! And hopefully you'll get to meet a lot of like-minded people. Make sure to bring the creature comforts that will make your dorm feel like home, whether that is a special pillow or morning coffee mug. Good luck!

I think it's great that you put your concerns out there. Since you know that the separation might be an issue for you ahead of time, I think it will be easier for you to handle than someone who goes, thinking it will be great and then get hit with overwhelming homesickness they did not expect. You can kind of think of some strategies to ease your transition and understand it might take some extra effort on your part to get into the swing of things. Hopefully you'll be able to connect with some of the other students before you head out there, even one familiar-ish person can make you feel less alone and more involved ahead of time. And also hopefully, you'll find the whole thing so great that the time will fly by. How long will your whole program last?

We have no clue who will be in our class until orientation the day before the course starts. It's a small class of 12 people which is a little bit better because I won't be as overwhelmed. But, I won't have a car while I there because my dad is dropping me off. I am really excited to go through this course but just really bad at meeting new people and have social anxiety. Thankfully, Hanson will be meeting them with me. After school I plan on training Hanson as my Psychiatric Service Dog. I have struggled with anxiety since elementary school. It got much better when I got Hammer but it's been a rough 8 months with no dog. Hammer was my inspiration when deciding to become a dog trainer because I noticed how much he helped me. I want to be able to show the world what dogs can do when properly trained. I was also inspired by my bosses Neil and Rachel Mathews of Certified Canine. He has brought several aggressive dogs into his care to help them get a second chance. I guess I just need to keep my eye on the prize and fight through the 6 week program. You guys are right, it will fly by. 13 certifications in 6 weeks is a lot.

This sounds so cool! Would be very fun if you could throw up a little microblog to document your daily experiences, or even a thread on here!
