    Carry me, Mommy!

When Stormy was little, we would carry her to the door for potty breaks to minimize squats on the way out of the house. She now walks herself as needed- mostly.

Around 9, she'll curl up on the couch with us and snooze until bedtime. But she is difficult to motivate off the couch and to the back door for her final outing. I've tried turning off all the lights and leaving the room. I've tried calling her name. Zzzzz. I've even waved treats under her nose- that got me nose quiver, a half-open eye, and then return to snoring. Sometimes I'll gently call her name and shake her a little. She'll put her paw up and kind of wave it at me.

Because what she wants? Is for me to pick her up and carry her to the door. Now, she's awful cute for that final "taxi ride". She puts her paws around my neck and snuggles in.

But she's also 35+ pounds, lanky long, and growing by the minute.

She's resistant, but her days of being carried (and lifted at a dead weight), are dwindling!

"What do you mean you want me to walk, Mom?":

Aww...I'd do it just for the neck schnuzzles.

That's funny! She just wants a hug before bed.

It really is the sweetest! If my elbow tendinitis didn't kick in each time, I'd keep it going.

Funny how we inadvertently train them.

    (or they deliberately train us)

Bruce and Brooks both slept in my bedroom from their gotcha day, so I'd have to carry them down the stairs to get to the main part of the house and go outside. I didn't want them putting strain on their elbows and shoulders. I loved it as they would cuddle and nuzzle and lick my face while I was carrying them, and Brooks would make the cutest yawning noise (he still does this, only louder and deeper!). I did this until they were about 4 months old, and just too big to carry anymore.

Man I miss those days, so enjoy it with Stormy while you can!

Yes, enjoy it while you can! I wasn't prepared for how fast they grow when we got Thor, but for Barley I took advantage of every second of his smaller size when I could! I'd scoop him up all the time for snuggles. Even though I can't pick him up like that anymore he's found other ways to get in his cuddles. At night he'll snuggle his nose into my neck (and snore loudly) just like he did when he was a tiny puppy and I was carrying him. She may have to scoot her own butt outside pretty soon but I'm sure she'll find another way to get in her snuggles!

I already miss the days of carrying Diggity like a football down the stairs and out the door for potty time. Like others have said, enjoy it while you can!

I remembered you advising taking advantage of her littleness, and I’ve done so! I hold her in my lap and let her lay on my chest, and really, until she got over 32 lbs, was happy to carry her. She’s not as snuggly as she was as a wee pup, when she used to puppy-pile on me, but she still curls up next to me and if ?I’m laying down, will nuzzle her head into my neck. She melts my heart.

Aww, adorable. I carried each of my boys up and down the steps until I couldn't! Samson would sit down at the bottom or top of the stairs and just stair at me. I have 100's of pictures of him doing that on an old cell phone somewhere. Most adorable thing ever. Asher did the same. Time goes so fast!
