    Favorite food toys

I'm always looking for new ideas for food toys!

Stormy has mastered the treat ball and the Wobble Kong. We added a piece of tape to the Wobble Kong opening so fewer treats fall out at a time.

I gave her a Tug-a-jug last week. Took a few days, but she's figured it out.

Frozen kongs- she's getting more patient with them. I've been using mashed up banana or kibble in them, with just a little peanut butter. She likes the other toys better; she gives the kong about 15 minutes before walking away.

I have some Nina Ottosen puzzles I can pull out.

Any other toys I should consider?

I used these: No-Hide Salmon 11 Chews - Earth Animal. They were good and lasted quite a while, at least until their adult teeth came in. These worked good too, again until they got their adult teeth. All Natural, Long Lasting, Organic Himalayan Dog Chews | Lean Treats for Dogs

I feed Lido in Outward Hound slow feed bowls. It really slowed him down. Be sure to get size large. I have 3 different ones from this company, and I also have a 4th from a company called Freefa. I found all of them on Amazon. I rotate them daily.

Those bowls are great for fast eaters...it helps to slow them down and also helps to prevent bloat.

West Paws toys are the ones highly favored by dental vets. I got a bunch of different ones, but this is his favorite. I can stuff all kinds of treats in there and it takes him quite awhile to get them out. I use kongs too, but this one has openings on the ends and sides, so you can jam in all kinds of different sizes and shapes of treats.

These aren’t chew toys, but this is how I slow down Diggity’s inhaling of his meals.

I volunteer at a training center for service dogs and they use these exact food puzzles for meals with their puppies. I have three shapes and, like Beth C, rotate them each day.

Kyjen Slow Feeder Dog Bowl Fun Feeder Stop Bloat Bowl for Dogs by Outward Hound, Large, Purple https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FPKNRG4..._6BwbgI49V6xtg

I also rotate in this snuffle mat for meals:

Wooly Snuffle Mat - Feeding Mat for Dogs (12" x 18") - Grey Feeding Mat - Encourages Natural Foraging Skills - Easy to Fill - Fun to Use Design - Dura https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1FV55I..._JmdX1eG2rOz4H

You’re lucky the no hide chews worked for you. I really wanted them to work for Diggity, but he must have chewed big pieces off and swallowed them whole. He had runny poo and big chunks came out in his poo. He also threw up chunks the night I gave him one. For him, they didn’t digest like advertised, but again, he might have swallowed too big of pieces.

Ours are pretty good with kongs/peanut butter, but what really gets them nuts, is cramming a dehydrated fish skin in kong
Beams Dog Treats – Pure Fish Skins

these go great stuffed into kongs as well
    https://primalpetfoods.com/collectio...rozen-formulas

Both the fish and primal nuggets take some work get out of the kong and keeps them interested

We also give them frozen duck feet as treats, but only when we are watching them

Here's one thing I've done with my dog:

Get a muffin tin and fill the holes with food/treats. Cover the holes with tennis balls. She has to wait for my command before she is allowed to remove a tennis ball and get the food/treats hiding underneath. Then I do that with each one.

For the first year, Coal, my new pup, used the Outward Hound slow feeders. The purple and turquoise styles were not his favorite but we've gone thru two of the orange. He has a tendency to carry them over to his bed to shake out the last of the kibble and then I have to be alert and retrieve before he chews them too much. I just started feeding him some of his meals on the aforementioned Snuffle Mat -- it really slows him down and I love to sip my coffee while listening to him inhale as he searches thru the fabric fringe.

I also purchased another snuffle mat that is larger and has more challenges https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I will introduce this to him for when I really want to occupy him for awhile! Several people, with labs from the rescue that I got Coal from, love this.

Finally, the orange Omega Tricky Balls are great -- he gets one in his crate when I leave for work and one with his dog walker. On weekends, he is really annoyed that I am not going to work and will stand expectantly in his crate... He has both large and small sizes. If your ball does not come with a drain hole in the opposite end, I recommend drilling one as it is annoying to dry after cleaning (I often let it drip into the dimples at the inside bottom that use a paper towel wrapped on a chopstick to clean). dog,
