A few questions about training for all you hunters

So I was thinking I need something to keep Ruger busy he's one of my hardest puppies as in he gets borded easy and needs to have his mind worked alot. He's super smart and focused when training and I will complete all levels of obedience with him. I also thought of doing scent work with him as well bc he has hound in him his nose is always working.

For all the hunters on this page who has trained thier dog to shed hunt? This was something my husband wanted to teach gauge but then we never ended up doing it after his accident. Ruger I think would be great at but I don't know where to start in teaching him. Will he even be ready for this year's shed? I know you have to start slow and introduce him to a dummy shed that's as far as I got. Any tips or advice or help would be appreciated.
