      I'm a big girl! Sometimes...

When I got home from work, Stormy didn't greet me at the door. DH wandered out of the living room and said, "Where's puppy?" vaguely. We found her on our bed, snoozing away. Which is fine! But surprising. Our bed is a little tall, and she has needed a boost from us to get on it. We coo'ed over what a big girl she is, and DH scooped her up for hugs and to bring her in the living room with us.

Later, she wandered out of the room. Five minutes later, I heard her bark- and it was a frantic, scared bark! I ran out thinking she was at the door for a potty emergency- nope. So then I went to our bedroom and sure enough, she had jumped on the bed. But I guess she decided she didn't want to stay on it- but she was too scared to get down on her own. I helped her down and she was happy again.

Silly girl. As DH said, at least she alerted us to when she was in trouble (and truthfully, I like to limit her jumping down since she's little.)

It's funny to imagine her suddenly realizing she was out of her depth there. Good thing she called you! Little Rascal.

I currently know of two puppies that have broken their growth plates from doing everyday stuff like jumping off beds (things that could have easily been prevented). For one pup, it's a cast and I'm not sure what else, exactly. The other pup was different. They didn't know it was broken and one leg bone stopped growing while the other continued. Her leg started looking like a basset hound leg, if you know what I mean. They had to go in and saw the short bone. (Super non-technical talk here, I know.) Puppies are gonna be puppies, but things like limiting access or providing tools to help them and limit height can go a really long way toward avoiding accidents.

Cute! Sounds like she’s entering adolescence where she’s exploring her independence a little!

      She's training you guys well!

Seriously, you're smart to not let her jump off the bed. I still don't let Brooks or Sophie jump out of the back of my car, and I limit Brooks jumping during obedience training. Can't be too carful.

Barry, how do they get in and out? Do you have a ramp or something that you transport in the car whenever you go somewhere? I know your back isn't in lifting condition. Even I still lift Lark and Henry in and out of my mid-size SUV because between the 2 dogs and any luggage or other things we need to take when we travel, there's no more room for our ramp. Lark's about 70 pounds and Henry is getting there quickly. KM- I guess if Stormy is going to be sleeping on the bed you'll soon be looking into some Stormy Steps!
