Aye Mates,
Three roosters bagged, a great day afield resulting from spot on communication betwixt handler and dogs. Information flows via whistles and bells as the team works in mutual cooperation. Using two separately toned bells, I can tell exactly where each of my two gun dogs are in the cover at any given moment. As I listen to each bell, the variation in tone and tempo lets me know that the dog is making bird and a flush is imminent. As the bird explodes toward the sky, I blast the whistle to reinforce the sit of the dog, a command made to steady the retriever until released to make the retrieve, each bird recovered is gently delivered to hand in classic style. My dogs and I live for these moments as we did today under winter skies. Our success is underlined by our concerted effort and treasured memories made much more so than the number of birds bagged.
Cheers,
