    Puppy Diaries: 5 months old!

Time is flying, isn't it? My little one celebrates her 5 month birthday tomorrow. She's about 41 lbs now- roughly 3 times the size she was on gotcha day. She's lost most of her baby teeth, so she's moved from gnawing on toys to destroying them, lol. I've retired the baby Nylabones. She's still good about not chewing on human stuff, although if I'm careless and leave the closet door open, she likes to grab my sneaker and gnaw on it a bit. She's starting to shed, sigh. I did enjoy the puppy days of not finding clumps of dog hair everywhere, five minutes after I vacuumed.

She's bright, affectionate, fairly independent, and treat motivated. And being a field lab- she's high energy. She's big enough now to play with our neighbors' lab mix and those twice-a-week doggie playdates have been a godsend! Yesterday was cold and wet here, and no one was at the dog park. She was a busy, busy bee that night. We played a lot, did a lot of training, brought out all the food-dispensing toys, and at 8 pm she finally curled up with me while I read.

    She makes us so happy.

And genetics are strong. Here's Stormy's dad:

I think we have a good idea of what she'll look like full grown!

    My...she has grown!

And she looks just like her Dad! She sounds like such a sweet puppy...don't you want to keep her small a little longer?

May I ask...are you now transitioning her to adult food? How often do you feed her?

    Her coat looks so shiny!

I do wish she'd been littler longer! She's a cuddler, and she would curl up on my lap. Swoon!

We're feeding her Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy 3 times a day (6 am, 12 noon, 6:30 pm). The vet suggested keeping her on the puppy food until she's a year and since she's doing well on it, we plan to stick with it.

They are both beautiful dogs...such aristocratic faces.

It seems like only yesterday that you were introducing us.

She looks so happy! What do you think she will weigh when fully grown?

Going by the double-from-4-months, I'm thinking 65-70 lbs. Her mom was 70, her dad 85, but she was one of the smaller ones in the litter.

I've never heard of the double-from-4-months. 65 is a perfect size! That was the size of Sprocket. I think Diggity will be bigger based on his dad -- around 70 pounds. That would actually be right in line with the double-from-4-months!

And I thought she would grow into those ears!
