Oban is so funny. He had an acute episode of very, very sore (whimpering, crying, yelping) sore neck on the weekend. Post Vet Tuesday morning (Monday was a holiday) he is on Metacam and antibiotics for an infected and quite swollen lymph node in his neck. As per Vet I bought a harness to spare his neck (which was SO swollen none of his collars would do up anyway) and he is so patient while his challenged Mum has to re-figure out the harness every time I put it on him. That's thought bubble #1 - Keep it at it Mum, you'll figure out how it goes on. Again.
I'm to keep him leashed for some days so thought bubble #2 is clearly - This is where you let me off the leash. I sit, you take my collar off, I stay sitting, you throw treats in the air and say FREE. Remember? That's what we do. Sorry Mr. Oban, not today.
Oban doesn't like to poop on the trail, he always heads off into the snow, but he's staying on the leash so I have to go with him. Thought bubble #3 - What are you coming for? You don't have to hold my hand, I can do this by myself, like always. Have you gone weird, Mum? Sorry Mr. Oban.

This is the report on analysis of fluid from the node.
For a couple of weeks prior Oban had been having trouble swallowing large pieces of apple. But only sporadically. I wondered if he'd been chewing sticks and got one wedged crosswise but I could not find one. Now one theory is a tiny sliver of stick punctured the inside of the back of his mouth, paving the way for infection.INTERPRETATION: Reactive lymph node
COMMENT: The findings are most indicative of a reactive lymph node.
This may occur due to any local or generalized antigenic response,
which may include infection, inflammation, immune-mediated disease or
neoplasia from an area that drains into the node.
Yes, thanks, he's feeling MUCH better with the Metacam. Acting his usual 11 months instead of his real 11 years. He will be on the Metacam a week, the antibiotic two weeks.

Poor pup. They are so patient with us, aren't they? And so bemused when routines are interrupted.
