Yesterday, it finally stopped raining and a friend and I took Stormy to Colonial Williamsburg. It was her first time visiting this historic area.. In the hour we walked around, she saw bikes, strollers, horse drawn carriages, lambs, sheep, people in colonial garb, people in wheelchairs, and more dogs than you can count. She walked in mud, on cobblestones, on grates, in gardens, and on sidewalks. She got to meet and greet a Jack Russell terrier mix, a Corgi, and a hound. She *wanted* to meet every dog and person. She also wanted to go up all the stairs and enter every building (the one thing you can't do with dogs.) I got quite the upperbody workout as all of her budding leash skills went out the window as she pulled and pulled, without end, because she didn't really know where she wanted to go. She wanted to check Everything out. This was her first real high-traffic field trip, and it was overwhelming (in a good way.) The angle of the leash and her distracted air in these photos sum it up well:
She fell asleep as soon as I got her in the car, and slept throughout the rest of the day and evening; I conclude her puppy brain was full!

What an exciting day...I'm sure she enjoyed herself every bit as much as you did.
What a beautiful setting for distraction training. Stormy looks like a kid in a candy store, she can't decide what she wants to investigate first.
That's great! Does her a world a good for socialization!
How is stormy on her leash? Does she pull much?
She's beautiful in the house and awful out in the wild, lol. I know all the strategies (be a tree, switch directions), but I've never been able to reconcile the strategies with having to actually get her to walk for exercise. "Don't let her pull, so you may only go 10 feet, that's okay" doesn't work when I have one hour of non-pouring rain and I've got to get her moving. I'm hopeful that with the upcoming time change it will be light enough for me to walk her after work (and not just when I sneak out early), and with consistent practice it will click.

She's getting so big! Sounds like a fun day.
How old is she? We have a nice downtown area where so many people walk with their dogs and kids running around. She likes everyone too but isn't too crazy about loud trucks, etc. Not looking forward to when she starts pulling on the leash. Right now at 14 weeks she is walking nicely with a halter. Stops every 3 ft to watch squirrels, birds, etc My husband says she's like dragging a cement block on a walk!
