I always laugh when people ask me for a puppy, say.. Tomorrow?

Uhm, yeah, let me check my inventory! *Insert >eyeroll< here. I breed infrequently and have a list 20+ people long, so no the chances of a puppy being available tomorrow are nil.

I find most people do more research to purchase a toaster than a puppy. It's a sad state really.

Our lab was 7 weeks when we picked him up. His mum had to be persuaded to feed all six pups. and they were eating solid food at 6 weeks, (wetted slightly to soften it) He had his first injection at 6 weeks and he's now 13 weeks old.

I have a friend who has been breeding labs since the 60's. She usually has 3 breedings per year (one of each colour, 3 different bitches). The only time she has had 21 puppies on the ground was a year that the first breedings did not take so she rebred to meet the demands of her waiting list. Good breeders have waiting list and some of her buyers are returning to her for their second or third lab.
As for doodle breeders, the CKC will not register any labs from a kennel known to be breeding doodles. I know of one kennel that was ban for life from registering with the CKC.

Wow, that's interesting! I wish AKC would grow a spine but it's all about the $$$$ to them.

I've been breeding since 1995, and have several 3-peat buyers. It actually makes it hard for the younger folks to get in the door because I may have folks waiting for 1-2 yrs in those cases. I'd be willing to bet I have at minimum 50 excellent homes waiting every fall/ winter that I have to sort thru. Some obviously will have jumped ship if another litter came available, and some have vacation/ job conflicts, but there is no shortage of buyers it seems. I pity the Canadians who have been on wait lists for 2+ yrs who contact me (have a super nice gal currently) as the exchange rate and added tariffs at the border really add up.

The CKC is pretty strict about breeders also we are governed b through the Federal government when it come to registering. Breeders have 6 months to get the individual registration papers to the new owners or risk sanctions by the CKC. Usually a suspension of privileges for first offences and getting more serious for repeat offenders.

my friend got her pup from the US a month or so ago and it was so crazy expensive. I've seriously looked at US breeders (they are not off my list either) but on top on being more expensive (2000-2500) i have to factor travel, duties and exchange. it can end up being twice the cost of a canadian breeder puppy. not that one should ever shop on price but..yeah it can add up fast cross border.

i am also not a buyer willing to wait 2+ years at this time (but i've been at my search for nearly a year now and had done research before). but i may have lined up some options for dog #2 when timing isn't as important

And why is this emphasized again? Solid food, vaccinations are in no way an indication that the pups are ready to go. I wish you luck with your new pup!!!

The puppy is home so ofcourse i checked it out. She is so calm for a 8 week old. She just like a extra calm bear. ofcourse gigi if i remember at 8 week was a moose and was not gentle. My wife feels bad as they have another dog that is crated all the time. sometime we get late night text to feed and take her out as she has been in a crate all day. Once i freaked out as she refused to move from her crate. This happened again past weekend when we call the request via a friend as the owners were in the next state. How do you lock a dog and go to next state and forget to tell your friends to take her out. What if me and wife were out if the kids take off to the grandparents?..... got me and wife pissed.

Oh my goodness...they locked the puppy in a crate and left for another State?? This is animal neglect...why do they even have a puppy? This is horrible!
