    Daisy and other updates

Hi all. Thank you so much for all the support while Daisy was sick. It means more than we could ever express.

As an update, after bringing Daisy home from ICU she regained her strength and started eating and gaining weight. Her best weeks to date was probably the second and third week after she returned home from ICU. From there the improvement tapered off. She was on prednisone for about a month but due to very high liver enzyme values and the return of some of the Cushing symptoms we slowly pulled her off the prednisone per the vets instructions. We’ve been going to the vet every 2 to 3 weeks for blood work. The liver enzymes have dropped a little but are still very high. Overall she’s doing ok. She has good days and she has bad days. Some days we are very optimistic and others where we are worried to death. We are just taking it one day at a time.

As to other life updates. I posted in December about the possibility of a puppy. That was before D got sick. After giving it a lot of thought, DH decided that he wanted to move forward with our original plans. While it seems a little crazy, I get where he is coming from and we’re excited and nervous for our new addition (a black male) that we are picking up at the beginning of April.

Oh yes, she’s in trouble. We keep telling her she’s getting a puppy brother. She still enjoys the company of other dogs and wags when the neighbor’s dog comes over so we’re hoping the little guy puts a little pep in her step too.
We’re also hoping the little guy can learn from her because she’s such a great dog.

I was wondering how Daisy was doing. Good to hear she is hanging in there. Fingers crossed that the good days outnumber the bad ones.

Congrats on the new puppy! Can't wait to see pictures of him!

    I. So sorry to hear about Daisy I'm just trying to catch up now with everyone's posts as Benelli has been very sick as well. I'm glad Daisy is home and improving.

Benelli is on high dose pred and had to be weened down bc he was having awful side effects. He was in pre diabetic state and then developed pancreatitis. He needs to stay on it for his imha he's still on 20mg but in two weeks we are weening him down to 10.

There are days where he feels icky and doesn't want to eat.

It's so hard to see our babies so sick. I'm so glad Daisy seems to be improving. How much weight did she lose while sick? Benelli was 71lbs and he was 57.2 on Thursday. Hoping we can get some weight back on him.

Daisy was on a high dose as well. She was at 65 lb which was on the heavy side for her body. She dropped down to 55 lbs and she was around 57-58 lbs at her last vet visit.

I think in Daisy’s case the steroids actually helped increase her appetite. She’s off them completely now and I noticed she eats more at dinner time than in the morning. At one point we were adding goats milk to her food to up the calories.
