    Show me your favorite leash!

Stormy ripped up my favorite- it was a thick, braided rope, sturdy enough so I didn’t worry about it breaking. I’ve bought 3 replacements and I don’t like any of them! What’s your go-to leash?

I’m a fan of making my own. I’ve found that a lot of the leash makers skimp on hardware quality, so I’ve bought clips from hardware stores and rope/webbing/carabiners from the climbing department at outdoor stores to make my own at a lower cost and with higher quality materials.

I really like using locking carabiners and loops tied along the length of the rope so I can adjust based on conditions.

That said, my longest lasting and highest quality purchased leash (and the one I’ve modeled many of my homemade leashes after) is from ruffwear:

Leather, kindest on my hands. Mine is 1/2 inch wide.

    ETA: Flat leather, not braided.

These are the leashes one of my trainers recommended and I have been using it for about a month. I like it so far:

Mine look like Jen's. Our old leather one that Chase used got so, so soft. If someone, ahem, hadn't chewed part of the leather, I'd still use it regularly. It's currently a back up leash because I tied knots to try to stabilize the braided ends. For the beach I use one more like the one Thor's Mom posted. Sand can get into the bolt snaps and make them harder to slide open and closed so a carabiner or snap hook works better and you can make your own leash using rope or a check cord, if you wish.

Which one, LOL. I have different ones for different occasions.

For walking in the park or neighborhood (suburban) we use flexi's once they know how to walk on a leash.

For stuff like going to the vet or walking in town, I have several 6 foot leather leashes like Jen posted.

For training and showing I prefer a 5 foot soft braided leather leash from 400 Bad Request (Edited to add - the link works, even though it says bad request) I get them at shows - she does custom color combinations so they each have a collar/leash set, but I wouldn't use those nice ones on a 6 month old puppy - those are for grown-up, responsible dogs, LOL.

I find leather is softest on my hands, so it's my preferred material.
