Does your Vet recommend the Lyme vaccine?
We received a mailer from our vet about tick season and possibly doing a test. I was unsure of the latter part.
But we have never worried about ticks in the past but now we are getting into hiking and trail walking.
We currently only use revolution but I don't think that will help? Or does it?
If not what should we be doing?

I’m trying the all natural route and am using Bug Off Garlic from Springtime. We’ll see how it works. This is tick central up here in the Boston area. I used to use Frontline in the spring and fall (the worst times) with my previous dog. I may have to resort to that with Diggity.

I use Seresto collars. I got one for Brooks last Summer when I went to Connecticut to train with IRISHWHISTLER. I was pulling ticks off Brooks and myself less than 5 minutes after we got out of the truck to do some field training. I had applied one of the topicals about a week before we went up, but it wasn't working. I stopped at a vets office up there and they recommended the Seresto, I haven't pulled any ticks off since I started using them.
Ticks are pretty bad here locally, but couldn't believe how bad they were up in CT.
The letter recommends screening for lyme disease and heartworm if it was not done in 2018 and to book appointment for screening and recommended treatments. This is the first we have seen like this. Usually we just get reminders when we need our shots.
Thanks I will have a look. It looks like Frontline Plus may be a better choice over Revoltion?
Usually our dog(s) rarely leave the backyard other than our walks around town. We are becoming more active outdoors.....
I had two ticks on myself last year. Got the second one out whole and the Health Unit sent it away for testing, all clear, me too.

I’ve always used Frontline Plus, but honestly I don’t think any of the topical tick treatments work that well. My holistic vet says the ticks have built up a resistance to the topical treatments. He recommends the Seresto collar. I can’t bring myself to use that though because even if it is totally safe for the dog, I don’t really want to get it on me and I snuggle with my dog a lot, so it’s not a good option.

We used to use topicals but they weren't that effective. I don't like the idea of a systemic - just seems too invasive to me. We started using the Seresto collars last Spring and never found a single tick (where we were finding tons before). They wore the same collars from probably April or May through November and they stayed effective even though my dogs swim frequently. Took them off for the winter and after finding 4-5 ticks on Chloe (and one on Sass) after a hike in the woods a couple of weeks ago, put new Seresto collars on them. No ticks since, despite a few trips through the same woods.

Our dogs are in very few situations that expose them. We'll do a blood draw in a few weeks to make sure they are clean.
Ticks are more of a problem for me. My work site is Tick Central in some ways and at times it's impossible to visit some parts of it and come back tick free.
