    Tick Season....

I’ve given up on the garlic pill experiment. Found an engorged deer tick on Diggity a few weeks ago. Got it off okay and it was still alive. Not sure how long it was on him...hopefully less than 24 hours. Will have him tested in a month (vet says it can even take several months to show positive.)

Gave him Frontline after I found the tick and he had loose stools for a few days. Might have been a coincidence because he still gets into things in the yard, but if he has problems on the second dose (due in a few weeks), not sure what I’ll use. I am not feeling positive about any of the pills or the collar.

I’m researching all natural sprays and one of the better pet stores near me loves Alzoo products, which I may try.

We have a tracking clinic all day tomorrow and Sunday and I am sure the ticks will be bad. I bought some All Natural spray called Best Shot and will spray him tomorrow and hope between that and the Frontline, he’ll be protected.

    I hate ticks!

Rex, my loveable blind guy was heart worm positive when I adopted him. He did fine with the treatment, but I think it was over $1000 for the treatment. Plus, my vet thought it might have been a possible cause of his ongoing kidney issues and glaucoma.

Get a Seresto. They work. About $55 at Walmart, and they last 8 months.

We have always used Advantix II, it repels mosquitoes as well. Our son uses the Soresto Collar and swears it is the best for his Aussie.

That is a really nice report. I couldn’t figure out if there is an equivalent one for the United States. Any idea?

Quick google search and I couldn’t find one. I’m sure there would be something similar for the US.

Question about the collar. Can it put on for walks on trails and in the woods, then taken off while in the house? Or does it need to be left on 24/7 once it is put on? I take dog collars off when at home.

It has to be on 24/7. It takes time for the substances from the collar to spread, so it will be completely ineffective to put it on for a few hours and then take it off.

Hmmmm. Rudy goes in a crate, and I worry about him catching the collar on the wire....

Better to apply a topical then. I use Advantix and I am happy with it. Works better for me than the collars.
