its so fun watching my pup grow. He is my only kid so he gets all my attention. and chili with all his quirks and faults just makes him that more special to me...now he just needs to stay healthy and happy

I find this depends on lines. With the chocolates I've had, I want to see green or grey eyes as puppies.... they turn into a nice brown. When I see blue eyes on a puppy, it usually turns into a yellow/hazel color... I think of weim puppies which turn into a yellow/amber as adults. Of course I'm not accusing these lab puppies of being anything other than labs, just using that as an example.
Some lines will continue to darken as they age, but golden eyes are never going to turn brown.

Out of curiosity, to those that breed, is the color of eyes as a baby in blacks and yellows similar? Do green/grey eyes turn to a nicer brown as they age or is it not a factor in other colors? I didn't see Maxx in person until he was almost 9 weeks old and his eyes were already brown. He had 2 chocolate brothers and one chocolate sister and they did not have the blue eyes I see so often in pics of chocolate babies, one of the boys was green and the other 2 a dark grey. I always wondered about those grey eyes!

I find that black/yellow puppies turn brown or even look black/dark grey at a really young age.

My broken chocolate Lion head doe started out blue and turned yellow. Not as amazing intense as Chili's. With Chocolate Lion heads, the standard is brown, with the ruby cast not being desired. It's a fault but not a DQ.
