Operation Bring Ovie (formerly known at Trooper) Home

Tooper has been renamed to Ovie as we are big Ovechkin fans around here.

We want to really thank Faye and Andrew for finding us this guy. It was really nice to meet you guys in person. It was funny that Andrew texted me what he would be wearing when we met them at the coffee store. I have seen so many of their great beer photos that I would recognize them anywhere.

Another thanks to PAW Rescue they were really great to deal with.

It was a four hour car ride home and it was raining so we had the pleasure of having the wet stinky dog experience. We stopped a couple of times on the way to stretch and have a pee break.

Ovie is one big lovable guy. It was four hours of belly rubs and scratches. He just wants to be petted.

He was not barked once since the shelter when he wanted out of his cage. Him and Georgia are getting along just fine. He has peed twice in the house but has also gone to the door to go out. He has a fixation with squirrels. We went for a short walk and he was really interested in them. He also darted across the pool winter cover chasing one. He is getting used to the "noises" around here like the furnace etc.

He is pretty skinny though at 70 lbs. They were feeding him Hills Science Diet so we are not sure what to switch him to or switch at all.

The funniest thing, his birthday on his card is my birthday. Is that fate or what?

Here are some photos. More to come.

    Thanks Everyone!!

Ovie looks like a happy boy. Maybe he knows what a lucky boy he is? The birthdays, yes, fate. Many happy years together wished to all of you.

Oh, he looks like such a happy guy! Him sitting there with Georgia just looks like it's always been that way.

As for changing his food, I've spent so much time reading the information on the nutritionally-mediated cardiomyopathy that I suggest you stick with Hills, Purina, Royal Canin or Eukanuba as long as the verdict is still out on what about other foods seems to be linked to cardiomyopathy. I feed Purina and I'm really only familiar with their formulas. Hills would be fine, maybe he just needs more food. Purina Pro Plan has those Sport formulas with 30/20 protein to fat which might be an alternative for getting him to put on a few lbs if increasing his current food doesn't cut it. Since he's going through some major changes already, maybe let him settle in before changing his food.

The vet told me that a vet tech in the area had rescued him and his brother but had 5 dogs and you are only allowed 3 so she brought them in so they could find a home. She said they were living in a barn.

She told us that his brother broke into the food room and ate half a bag of dog food and the proceeded to puke it up all over the office. Pretty funny.

We are down one rubber door stopper so it looks like we will have to do another once over the house tomorrow.
    Thanks Everyone!!

Oh gosh! When Lark helped herself to the food bag one time, I don't know how much she ate. Fortunately she didn't vomit it up but she did poop 10 times the next day! Not sure which I'd rather clean up!

You all just look so dang happy!

    Congratulations...it was meant to be!

Hill's Science Diet had a couple of recalls this year...can't remember specifics....think it may have been just some canned...but you might want to check that out against the exact food he's been on.
