    Yep, that's a Lab...

This morning I was making lunches for the boys when I knocked a broccoli stem to the floor. Sprockette was right there, of course, and yes, she chomped it right up and looked around for more. So I gave her the other broccoli stem, and once more, it was devoured. I didn't know that raw broccoli was on the list of things she would eat, but I guess it is. The only thing I've seen her turn down is spicy stuff. She tends to be offended when we put down a plate that had spicy food on it. Silly dog...

It must taste better if she grabs it when you didn't intend for her to. It's not quite as appealing when it's actually offered. After all, if it was tasty you'd have eaten it yourself.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Our first Lab Brutus seemed to have an inordinate desire for grass. I was used to the take-it-or-leave-it attitude of Basenjis and Akitas and didn't realize the "cow gene" carried by some other breeds....I thought Bru just knew that he seriously needed greens. What to do for that first winter? I gave him broccoli with his meals and he loved it.

LOL, broccoli certainly is not on the very short list of things Oban won't eat. It can make dogs awfully gassey though, did you notice any after effects? Probably didn't eat enough of it?

I don't remember Bru having gas. If he did, it wasn't the offensive kind. I guess I gave him about 1/4 - 1/2 cup with each meal, cut up. I was second-guessing replacing grass in the winter...and he was a heavy grass eater. (no vomiting with the grass)

Mine had a stem of broccoli on her bed the the other day. She carries it around and then leaves it on the bed. She does love her some grass. I call her donkey more like Shrek voice ... haha.

Spring is here and i have to be extra carfull as we spray our yard for tick and mosquito and so does others. so always need to keep an eye on her grass eating .

We give bubba tons of broccoli. We call it "trashcan broccoli" because it is the stems that we would normally throw out. He loves it! Not a huge fan of all vegetables though.

Macy also loves broccoli but Brussel Sprouts are her fave. She literally drools for them.
