Pet store suggested CBD for Amber

Took Amber in to a nice pet store to get her a new halter and the lady that waited on us heard her barking and playfully trying to get to another dog in the store. She said she is really anxious and also said "imagine how you would feel if you were that anxious when you go out. So she suggested we might try some CBD to calm her down. I didn't buy any, but I feel like it's just the 5 month old puppy stage plus she is cutting teeth and is naturally more out of sorts right now. Has anyone else used this to calm your puppy? We take her out a lot to places like Lowes, walking in parks, etc. so it's not like we haven't been socializing her.

All I'd do for a pup under the age of 2 or so is continue training. I wouldn't use any of the products on a puppy.

My thought on your scenario? Amber was being an excited puppy...not necessarily anxious...and the woman wanted to make a sale.

I agree with Sundance. Sounds like a normal lab to me.

We used some CBD Oil with Georgia because she probably has the onset of arthritis in her rear wheel. It flares up on her when she over exerts herself and it nags her. She was to the point of being in a bit of pain when jumping up or going up stairs etc.

With the use of the CBD Oiil she did have a turn around and she is back to jumping on the couch or bed and running up and down the stairs. We aren't sure if it was the oil, a change in our routine or both.

During this time period we had a patch of bad weather where we were limited to our walks. So she was very well rested. We were picking her up and putting her to bed or on the couch.

It's hard to say if the oil helped or a combo of the oil and rest.

I don't think I would be using for a lab that is just acting like a lab.
    Thanks Everyone!!

Sounds like someone trying to make a sale by recommending something that is currently in vogue but untested.

Henry was in obedience classes at 5 months of age and sat barking for a fair amount of the time during a couple of his classes. At no time did the 2 trainers suggest any cbd containing products and they're not vets anyway so I wouldn't have used them. And I'd question my vet pretty carefully if she recommended it anyway. I don't think barking and happily trying to engage another dog is too uncommon at that age. He's no longer barking but still super excited to be at class.

I agree with all of you. I think she was acting normal for a lab puppy and I'm thinking some classes or training would be much better for her!

If mine were acting any different than Amber was at the same age, THEN I would have taken them to the vet!!!

Yeah, training and socialization. I wouldn't try anything yet. If walking in crowded places still makes her uncomfortable later on, I would avoid such places and walk her someplace calmer (like the woods) instead.

I've used off leash exercise and training classes, with their homework, to calm my puppies. And active play in the backyard.

We were considering CBD oil for Oban's arthritis but upping the dose of one of herbal TCM helped immensely so we never bothered.

My goodness....Amber is just a baby! This sounds like overkill to me!

I'm surprised the clerk would even suggest CBD for a puppy!

And yes, she sounds like a perfectly NORMAL 5 month old puppy to me! I wouln't give it a second thought.
