But Mom, I already have a treat...

Yesterday morning I was inside changing the kitchen trash bag when I saw Lark chewing on something out in the yard. (Henry was on a walk with my OH) It looked like she and Henry might have ripped apart the stuffed toy hedgehog one of them took outside- the right color for the "fur" and stuffing but all strung out about 18-24 inches. I went out carrying the new trash bag and as I approached, I thought maybe the toy had gotten tangled on a stick and she was chewing on one of the sticks. I get a little closer and see that actually? She was chewing on the lower leg of a deer! How it got into our yard and where the rest of the deer are remain a mystery. I'm thinking one of the local foxes was just being neighborly and left it for my pups. It ended up in the trash bag I was conveniently holding- ugh, if I'd gone out empty handed!

I tried to offer her a treat to put down the leg bone but she wasn't buying it. Fortunately my dogs will let me take anything from them without an issue but I'm sure she was thinking she'd finally scored the best treat EVER!

Ugh! Fox or raccoon probably the delivery service...I wonder if Lark is a big tipper.

Ugh! Sass tried to take a deer leg home from the park once, but we knew where it had come from (there was a whole carcass - they get hit by a car, make it 50 yards or so into the woods and die - we've found several over the years).

Oh my. At least it was in your yard. Jet carried a deer leg home with her one day. I let her chew on it for a while. Since it was fall, and only a leg, hunting friends and neighbours, and OH, wondered if it was an improperly disposed of kill.
