What have you done for your lab lately?

What's something you've done for your lab lately that non-dog people might give you the side eye for?

I'll start: We bought a king sized bed. We've talked about it for years, but were pushed to finally do so because Stormy loves to snuggle between us at night and there wasn't sufficient room for her. (Plot twist: She's definitely more comfortable, but I still have to shove her over at night as she likes to lay this.close.to.me. LOL)

Hmm, I did NOT throttle Henry this afternoon when he yanked a recently planted azalea out of the ground and ran around the back yard with it, settling down in the lilies of the valley to rip it limb from limb... OK, that probably doesn't count.

Let's see, let's see... there must be something. Probably we'd get eye rolls over our decor, and I don't just mean all the black tumbleweeds of hair. People who aren't dog owners would wonder why we have so many dog beds, dog toys, a wide variety of dog treats, keep magazines on the sofa cushions to keep the dogs off, and why do we have baby gates around when there are no babies.

We haven't let our dogs sleep with us since we had our boxers back in the day, us, 2 boxers, and a double bed. I'd be hanging on to the piping at the edge of the mattress, trying to make sure the dogs weren't disturbed. Stormy's a lucky pup!

This may not count but my son bought Ozzy (Australian shepherd) a t-bone steak for his birthday, cooked it rare and served it to him on a platter minus the t-bone.
Today I snuck Brandy into the local Walmart store in a shopping cart, she was napping in the seat in a blanket, no one said anything negative, even employees said she was adorable.

All this isn't recent but in the last two years ---A few months before getting Asher I purchased a king size bed and a sectional! I wanted a sectional so both the boys could lay on the couch with me and snuggle. The L on this one worked out perfectly since Samson wanted nothing to do with Asher! Samson on the L side by the window and Asher on the other with me. King size bed for same reasons.

Recently - I purchased a used mini van to make it easier for the boys to get in and out. I let my sister and family borrow it so I have not experienced the joy of not lifting the boys into the vehicle. Got a 9x13 area rug to cover up all areas of the hardwood so Samson would not slip and hurt his other knee. Had a privacy fence in my back yard put up primarily because one of my neighbors continued to invite Samson to jump up onto the chain link fence. The tie pieces of the fence all rusted and pointy. Horrible for his paws and his legs. Cut him a few times. Then the other side the neighbor has a dog and between he and Samson, one would have knocked down the wood picket fence during their play along the fence line. Declined a dinner event a few weeks ago with the management team at work because it was right after work and I couldn't leave the boys all day into the evening. It was a pretty big dinner outing but I had no way around it. I'm a manager on that team. But... I couldn't leave them for 14 hours. No way. Not for my pups but on Saturday, I found my asthma kitty struggling to breath on the living room floor. Swiftly took him to my vet, put on oxygen and they kept him until Sunday night. He was much better. I was afraid to leave him Monday so I explained the situation to my boss and I worked from home.

    I could keep going!

I got Diggity a custom-made doggie birthday cake for his first birthday! There is a dog bakery in town that makes really nice dog treats. I got him the cheeseburger flavor with yogurt frosting. He loved it! (I love how he stretches his neck up like an ostrich when he is sitting and waiting for something good.)

It's been really hot this week so I rescheduled some appointments so that I could be home during the cool part of the day to take the dogs on their daily hike.

We also did the king bed upgrade thing when we got Thor!

Katie had been limping, like laying too long in one position and then getting up. One morning she got up and refused to use her right rear leg; a tripod. A visit to the vet revealed calcifications in a tendon, nothing that can be surgically fixed. For the last 6 weeks I've been taking her to a vet rehab facility. She gets acupuncture, hydrotherapy, chiropractic, laser and I've been taught home exercises. She's done amazing while my purse melted.
