I dont know if common, but chili went from outdoors chain link large kennel in country to city life in a home w/doggy door at 6 months or so age. he adapted very quickly to free roam in house and sleeps in bed by our feet every night for last 5 years. you wont know till you try it...ofc the doggy door helped alot when younger...now he can hold it all day.
