I have a Traverse and I use this every day. I keep it in the back. I had them on leash with treat in one hand so they'd follow it up & down. They got it right away. After all-they are Labs

Same one I have for Hemi. He has no issue jumping into my truck but it's pretty high, so I figure no need risking and problems. I still lift him in and out if in a hurry but mainly he uses the ramp.

Thunder would not use a ramp either. He was terrified. I tried everything to get him to use it. We started on the ground and he wouldn't even stand on it when it was flat! My trainer even tried one weekend when she was boarding him. She used hotdogs and other delicious treats, she couldn't believe it. He just refused to use it.

He is going to have issues getting in and out of the car in the future. (I can tell already) He is slow on stairs and needs help jumping off beds. Thinking I may give the folding steps a try. He may be more willing to use those than a ramp. Silly dogs you just never know!

We got Jackson the tri-fold ramp - the ramp was very lightweight and easy to handle, which I liked. Jackson was a champ on our "trial runs" (flat on the ground, up small inclines on our property), but when the time came to use it in the car, no dice. We have full-size SUVs (29" from the ground to the seat) and I think the angle of descent was just too steep for Jackson. On the way down, he would basically take one step on the ramp and then freak out and jump to the ground. The ramp itself felt sturdy so I think the ramp would be just fine with dogs that are not as chicken as Jackson...he really is kind of a wimp, but I love him anyway.

We then ended up getting the steps from Pet Loader and it works great! We got the 5-step loader so the incline is not steep at all. We went with the 16" width, so it's narrow enough to get in the side doors as well. I certainly won't get any "cool points" for using the steps in public, but it's worth the trade off to not have Jackson jump and to not have to lift his 70lb booty out of the car with my bum wrist. The biggest downside is that the Pet Loader is pricier than the ramp, but it's cheaper than joint surgery which is most important.

Just my 2 cents in case anyone is looking at these options in the future :-).

Thank you for your update!! I also tried to get the ramp for Charlie and he was not having it! I am gonna give the 5 step loader a try.

Jeff - I lift up Charlie in and out sometimes too. I get the funniest looks from people...lil ole me carrying this 70 lb lab. To top it off - in the process - it looks as if Charlie expects to be lifted up like a KING!

We have this one and used it for Duchess: PetSTEP Folding Pet Ramp

It's really great, non slip and it folds easily to get in the car. I ordered mine from Costco online and it came very quickly. They suggested to lay it flat and have your dog walk on it, then raise to a curb, then a little higher until the height of your car. It only took a couple of times and I would guide her with her collar so she felt safe.

When training, we started right off the bat with it on the SUV. DH and I work together, one on each side to no opportunities to jump off. Took Melody about 15 minutes to learn. Bandit, Potion and Mardi all have used it. They all are so food motivated that treats and DH and I locking arms behind their butts did the trick. I do hold collars on the way down so no cheating.
