I use a furminator on the carpets.
Mr Kleb mentioned a dish-wahsing rubber glove and I believe it'd be definitely better for armchairs, sofas and that kind of stuff, but the squeegee trick seems to be better for flat surfaces such as carpets. I figured you might even use it on a broom stick and do it standing up, but so far I'm pretty happy with the crawling-on-the-floor style It works miracles, especially now when Mel started really shedding ?!? Her coat is different than Lynn's and the way she blows her coat is different too, but there's nothing we can't handle: vac, squeegee and you can happily blow your coat to your heart's desire, baby

Pretty sure it works, but I'd be a bit worried about the carpets though - the stainless steel comb-like edge (had to check the net to see what exactly it looks like) might be a bit rough on some of them. Guess the rubber blade of the squeegee is probably more merciful so to speak and, quite surprisingly, it works wonders.
