That's a tough one. Great idea to have the 'decision' discussion up front. So sad about the litters. Kudos to your vet on running that shelter.

A tough decision indeed, but sometimes a dog in need can't wait for the right time. That was the case when we rescued Mr., Purps and Pinks who were around 4-6 months old, we already had four dogs and Maddie (our Chessie) was 9 1/2 months old.
It was a crazy year with 7 dogs (4 of them 1 year or younger) but I still wouldn't trade it for anything.
    Good luck with your decision.

Haha! Actually, Barney had to go pick up some more food for Miia and he's going to meet Sweet Pea. Of course, that doesn't really mean anything.

(I think this is a "thumbs up" icon...that's how I mean it, anyhow)

So, Barney went and met Sweet Pea and took her out on a short walk. He said she's very sweet and lovable, also very small, but very round. She needs to lose weight badly. He was quiet and thoughtful when he got home, so I know that emotionally he would like to adopt her, but having 3 dogs already he's not sure. I'm not going to press him for now, I'll give him a day or so to think about it. He said the vet was talking about some kind of brace that would hold the front of her body different to make it easier for her to walk. I'm sure if she wasn't overweight that would help the most. I'm still hoping....and thinking about possible names, just in case.

Barney's thoughtfulness is probably him thinking about how he'll build the brace. I see a Beagle in your future!
