No you can't meet my dog.

This is actually kind of funny.

Zo had a dental cleaning today. She had a loose tooth and they pulled that then they drained a huge golf ball size cyst that she's had in her tail for years. Zo does not do well with anesthesia. She hates the loss of control. So the vet called and said to come get her at 3 pm, two hours before the regular pick up time.

I went, got everything settled and they brought Zo out. There was a guy with an unrestrained parrot sitting in the dog area and a woman with a small dog. Zo was completely flipped out. She was straining on the lead, low to the ground, swinging her head around and scrabbling around with her paws as if she was off balance.

We headed straight for the exit. I made it past the the loose parrot and, I kid you not, the woman with the small dog approached us to introduce her dog to Zo. I just smiled and said, "She's coming out of anesthesia. She's completely flipped out." Then Zo dragged me out the door. She didn't even recognize the car.

    Oh my goodness.

Oh dear. Even taking a dog into the vet I don't let my dog approach another not knowing what's going on, how the dogs feeling, or if it's even friendly. You can't fix stupid with the situation was so obvious.

I find my vet's office waiting area to be a challenging place to bring your dog because of clueless owners. Ours is always very busy and there's always someone walking their little dog around on a flexilead at full extension, allowing their dog to go up to every other dog that strikes their dog's fancy- no matter the condition or attitude of the dog being approached. "Oh, Willie just loves to meet other dogs!" And if another dog reacts poorly, it's not Willie's fault!

Try my line. "Oh, I hope he doesn't catch what mine's got." Of course really I'm wondering why their's is in.

Nope, great job getting her out of there. Not the place or time to be "making new friends"

Trying to get your dog to make friends at the vet is about as smart as trying to pick up dates in the ER waiting room during a full moon.
