Back when we moved here in 2007, this was a problem. They were snatching labs to be bait dogs. Mine are never allowed out alone either. Now, it's mostly because they are both jerks who find anything and everything to eat in the yard and then puke it up in the middle of the night.

People are mean. I would hurt someone if they injured my pup. I would end up in jail probably.

I always monitor the yard and am always supervising Shadow... it is difficult for people to access the backyard and I have nice neighbors. However, my problem seems to be with the hawk and scrounging squirrels who like to leave potentially dangerous things in the yard. I have found bones of all sizes and random food trash items. I once even saw the hawk drop nearly an entire hamburgers onto the roof of my shed -- it was fun to watch the hawk spend time on the roof eating what he wanted, followed by the crow, then the smaller birds until the entire thing was devoured.

Fortunately, Shadow likes to proudly prance around with the discoveries that I miss and he always releases the item when I give an hysterical "drop it" (not so much with a firm "drop it" when he is teasing me with my running shoes). I am fearful of bone slivers or tinfoil obstructions.

Once, while dog sitting a beagle, I noticed both Shadow and the beagle avidly looking at up into the top of my small redbud tree. It took awhile for me to figure out what they were looking at because the tree was so dense with leaves and seed pods but I finally found a fried chicken wing and leg hooked around a branch about eight feet up. The dogs thought they had found another purpose for trees other than peeing on them!

Thank you for the reminder. We just moved here, but our neighbors seem nice..I would hope they don't do something so awful.

I don't know/understand what goes through someone's head that makes them not only want to do something like that, but follow through and actually do it. It's sick.
