    Leather lead?

Can anyone please recommend a specific leather leash they like (brand/style, etc.). I haven't found much in the stores/shops around here, so I ordered one from Amazon a while ago, but it is very large and bulky and not the best quality. I am a bit nervous about just ordering another one without any knowledge of the quality. Thanks!

These are nice Leather Dog Training Leashes 6 Foot | 6 Foot Dog Leash | Braided Dog Leash | Competition Dog Leash | JJ Dog

go for the 3/4" or if your dog is not a puller, try 5/8"

And BTW Amazon has a good return policy, I would return the leash you don't like.

I LOVE this leash. The quality is amazing... the best $30 leash I've ever seen. I can't say enough good things about the quality. I'd totally order a couch from the same leather. Absolutely beautiful.

I use what Jen C posted. It's not the same brand however - we have a "leather guy" that makes them all for us. We are on a drill team with 20 other dogs - for our shows we had him make us leather leashes, leather pull tabs and for "working" we had him make us a foot and a half long traffic lead. They are all of that same style and they are braided. Everything we use it braided - apparently its a lot stronger, and if it ever breaks it can easy be fixed and rebraided - you just lose a little bit of length. Ours are all a few years old now and there is nothing wrong with them.

I like the kind Jen linked to. Sure, the leather is a bit stiffer (but never really really hard!) when its new, but it breaks in beautifully, and they last forever. I'd say the one I got Scout a couple months after I got him took 2-3 months to be totally broken in (when i first bought it from the instructor, I asked her if she was SURE it was the same as the ones I had bought years earlier - she laughed and said it feels to stiff and thick doesn't it?!) Plus, no hardware to break or stain or catch dirt. And, if a certain furry creature ever (ahem....Mags and Pocco!) chewed thru that delicious leather, its super-easy to fashion a shorter leash out of it! I have the 2 I got my last boys, one leash is now about 4.5ft long and 21yrs old, and the other is a convenient almost 4ft long and 19yrs old! Mine are all the 3/4", love love love the look and feel of the 5/8", but just didn't feel it was "strong" enough for a big male lab. And I like the way the "handle" is just a part of the leash, very very easy and tidy to gather up and hold excess leash length when doing on-leash obedience exercises.

I like 5/8" wide best for my small hands. Have a 1/4" for training and it's only 4 feet long but I often forgot it and find the 5/8" 6 foot one is fine. Amazingly, I've never had a leash chewer upper. Got my 5/8" at PetSmart, the shorter one from a booth at a trial.

Been looking for ages for a round braided leash. Found one last year but spent the money on the lab quilt - was afraid I would never find one of those again.

I like the bullhide braided or even the fully twisted leads from onlead.biz. She will be at the Lab National next month. I like how her leads feel in my hand, without needing the break in period of regular training leads. We discussed this a few months ago--maybe do a search on "lead" or "leash."

LOVE her leashes. I actually lost mine a few months ago and can't wait until I see her at a show to get a new one.
