I love road tripping with Bacon! With an RV, it should be amazing!! Have fun!!
I am way more than a bit jealous.
As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure. So, at the risk of stating the obvious make sure all collars have tags with your cell phone number, micro chips and upto date info with registry, and bring enough food for a few extra days just in case.
Also, the missing kid photos as I call them. Just before a trip to a fair, amusement park, etc I snap a couple pics of the kids just in case. Maybe way too paranoid but what the heck better than to careless.
Did I say I am very jealous, have a blast!

Opie has separation anxiety and I'm even worse! So no, it's not crazy and RVing will be fun.
Hemi loves going out RVing. All the people, different places for walks and smells. He is pretty content at night by the campfire to lay in his bed and people watch until he can't keep his eyes open. I already put my RV away for the year. I wish I could have gone one more trip but closing in on the end of the year and lots of projects have me working most weekends or already have plans or have to do leaves... winterize the house etc.
Sounds like fun I'd go for it. My problem is when I bring up trips with our dog "Jake" my wife takes real offence to it thus he stays home when we travel. You couldn't ask for any better dog to travel with because he lets us know when he has to go and stays right next to me when we are out running around. I haven't figured out how to get around this but We have found a sitter who welcomes Jake to their house and they always have several playmate's for him. That part couldn't be any better with the exception if we are gone longer than a week Jake barks at me when we see him again, but its only for a few seconds.
Wer not as bakards as you thinks we is .
Sadly dogs are still considered property and belong outside, mostly in rural/farm areas. But times are changing (slowly) more and more people are becoming "educated" to what/how dogs need for proper care. Dog parks and places to take them is growing around here too.
What part of MS you visiting? Upper or lower?
The dogs will probably sleep most of the time when you are on the highway until you stop for a light, gas/food or potty break. My biggest fear is the dogs getting lose during a potty break in a strange town usually its close to a major highway too.
Are they micro-chipped?

thanks everyone!! great tips. i didn't even think of the flea and tick control... good call!
i really do love the south... we've been there before and i really really enjoyed it. the whole vibe, and EVERYONE we meet is so friendly. i think this is just bad timing- we just found out that the foreign body in lincoln's leg that he's had since we got him was a bb that he got shot with while he was a stray in TN. that plus all of the dogs i see cross posted by shelters on facebook down south that are in danger of being euthanized after just DAYS in a shelter due to lack of space. ugh it makes me sick.
we did "warn" eric's family that we will bringing the dogs and everyone is fine with it and seemed very dog friendly. one of the other relatives brings her dog as well. i'm sure it is much more dog loving than i'm giving it credit for!
The family reunion takes place in Aberdeen so we will be there, but leading up to that we will spend some time in Georgia/the Carolinas with his extended family
oh and we're using www.cruiseamerica.com
Question, I just looked at their rates, are they per night, example I put week of dec 15th - 19th and it shows as $196, so is that per night or total?
We want to go to sandbanks beach and bring Dodger so this might be a great option. I envy you for getting to bring the dogs.
that should be for the 4 days. with that i believe you get 250 miles included, anything after that is an addition 34 cents a mile i believe. still cheapear than air fare!
