Our ACDx Stella is about 16 kilos and I consider her small.

Years ago I had a spanielx named Avis. She was 'small', about Stella-sized. Once I travelled with her and my 'medium', roughly 30 kilo Labx Moonpie. We stayed in a dog friendly hotel. While checking in I reviewed the pet policy which allowed 'small' dogs - up to 9 kilos.

We snuck in the back way.

So I guess size is relative.

Jet was on the small end of the scale for a Lab, at only 56 lbs. But she would curl herself up on the front passenger seat of my jeep and I'd look over at her and think she was hardly any bigger than my biggest cat. I have no idea how Oban compares since I learned long ago riding in the front passenger seat, the "death seat" is a NO NO for dogs and he's never been on it, at least that I've seen. He sprawls anyway, never needs to conserve body warmth. At 72 lbs Oban is near the top of the weight allowed in Canada, 75 lbs., and I still meet people who think he is small for a Lab.

Generally though I think up to 30 lbs is small, 30 to 60 is medium, over 60 is large (over 50 is big on my Vet's chart), over 100 lbs is giant. That seems reasonable to me.

I always call Hammer small because he is very small compared to my last lab, Whizzard. Hammer is 55lbs. You probably think I'm crazy though because I work at a training kennel for dogs of all sizes! You should see me trying to decide the amount of food to give each specific dog... Though I am great with food and nutrition for dogs it is a struggle xD
