      Why does he do this?

Why does he ignore me alot in the yard but when he is loose off leash when we go to the park he listens 100 percent. He will listen but when his nose is to the ground forget it but when we are in the woods he will do the same thing nose to ground and If I call him he will stop and come back. I'm glad its this way and not the other way around.

Archie does the same thing. When he gets to playing in the back yard, sometimes he seems to be deaf to commands, mainly come. Out and about, his manners are really sharp. Maybe it's just being comfy at home.

My Cassie is the same way. I have no idea why.

Is it because he is "off duty" in the backyard? You are so lucky it is this way and not the other way around!

Perhaps he's thinking 'house rules' can be more relaxed, but he's more alert when he's out? He could also be watching you more closely when you aren't at home so pays more attention.

Just a couple of ideas. . . he may have his own reasons, of course!
