I just put it down to some dogs being extremely sensitive. I've always clipped my dog's nails and although she tolerates it and gets treats it's always been the same. If I notice on a day she is extremely resistant I just do one to four nails and try again another day. It's much easier for us all and we all cope better if it's short and sweet. Sometimes a week may go by before I finish off the other nails.

She even hates me touching her paws and I 've been doing paw checks daily on her for years (ever since a friend's dog got a tick between the paws)

Good point Lauranj. I do hold the nail, not just the paw.

Good to know it's not just my guys.

I will try holding the nail next time, not the paw, and see if that makes a difference.

I did notice yesterday that Linus his his head kinda in my arm-pit and that seemed to relax him a bit. Maybe I'll try a dishtowel on his face. Couldn't hurt...

We used to clip Lola's nails as a puppy (never tried the dremel). Clipping her front nails was always a pain (pulling away), but we had no problems with back paws. We ended up deciding to just take her to the local Petsmart and have them do a nail grind every 4 to 5 weeks. Reasonable at $11. Naturally, Lola acts like a model a citizen for them, and doesn't move a muscle.

Do try the dish towel. I did that when Oban was a puppy. Really worked well. I found it worked even better when I used an old one that already had a hole in it for his nose to stick through. He was better behaved when he felt he could breathe. LOL
