    Stick Toy

Has anyone heard of these or given them to their dogs? https://www.petco.com/product/119300/...-for-Dogs.aspx

Oliver is a stick eater and I'm not sure if this would help curb that behavior or encourage it. Thoughts?

I've tried this, but only when Bacon was a puppy. Now that he is more of a power chewer, I wouldnt give it to him anymore. I would watch for small chunks coming off. Bacon loved this chew though!

I never heard of this before, might have been a great thing when Sunshine was a pup. Can it be destroyed or is it just a chew thing? Sunshine is not just a chewer, she NEEDS to leave destruction. The nylabones and such did not satisfy her, she needs to actually tear things into pieces. She rarely has a need for sticks inside now, but outside... If she gets frustrated or just bored, a stick or small tree is going to be destroyed.

She does not eat them or swallow any pieces, never has. It was a compromise on my part. She found it as a way to release that energy or frustration, other than bit me. There are worse things she could be doing too. She could be a digger, rock eater, barker or some other horrible behavior. If destroying sticks or small trees makes her happy and releases that frustration/energy, I'm fine with it.

No clue if you can destroy this toy or not. Oliver likes to eat sticks...eat them, eat them. Not just chew on them. At first it bothered me and I would try and take them away but it just came a game for him so I started ignoring it hoping it would go away. It did...only when he had snow to eat instead of sticks. Snow is gone so back to eating sticks it is. He isn't as bad as he used to be about it. The only time I correct him now is if he tries to remove bark from the tree. Then I tell him, "if the bark is on the tree, it stays on the tree. Leave it alone" and he will go find a stick in the yard to play with. I was thinking that this toy would maybe help with him not actually eating sticks but it might make it worse? Or I guess I could continue to ignore it as you are right, it could be worse. He could be digging holes in the yard or trying to eat the siding off the house.

I really don't know what I would have done if Sunshine actually ate the pieces of stick. I know I would have found a replacement for her destruction though. She went through an aggressive digging phase so maybe I would have just picked a corner of the yard and let her go at it. Again, she had a need to leave destruction, not just chew.

She never attacked large trees to tear the bark off. Luckily she discovered the joy of destroying small trees. She would attack lower branches of large trees though.

Have you tried ice? Sunshine LOVES to destroy and eat ice! I keep several 9 ounce plastic cups in the freezer and one or two cut off 2-liter bottles. Leave them in the sink for 10 or 20 minutes (or run water over them) and the ice comes out.

My previous puppy sitter gave one to Chopper when he was about 4 months old. It was too hard for him to chew on. Now his teeth and bite are much stronger. The stick holds together nicely. Chopper can only gnaw on it. The sticks last a very long time because they are very hard.

Awesome! I just bought the medium size one to see if Oliver will like it. Just waiting for it to arrive.

Neat! Although Maverick pulls enough branches off of trees that I don't know if this toy would matter much. Ugh, my poor trees.

We had one, but I remember reading some bad reviews somewhere so I didn't buy anymore. Can't remember exactly what it was about though.
