Were you able to bury Britt and have Zoey say goodbye to her body? I have found that helps. At least I didn't see the prolonged searching that I did when that could not be done. I've read allowing children to attend a grandparents funeral and seeing the body and watching the burial can really help young minds grasp what death is and learn to accept it. I think our pets have the same trouble if a companion all of a sudden just isn't there any more. Failing a burial of the deceased I wonder if saying goodbye to Britt's bed or her collar or something closely associated with her and actually burying it might help?

It's heartbreaking, I've had cats look over a week for the one who is gone or the dog who is gone. A neighbour's dog waited in the window for her Mum for two months after Mum had died. Her human Mum. How do you tell a dog Mum is gone after a long hospital stay? It's hard.

I don't know which is worse, losing one or watching the other mourn the loss. It's a tough situation.

So sorry to hear this; my heart aches for you and sweet Zoey.
