+1 The Oregon Coast has some very nice dog friendly beaches. Cannon Beach and Florence beach are some of my favorites. Cannon Beach and Astoria, OR have dog friendly restaurants also. The waterfront area of Portland has great places to walk your dogs along the Willamette River.

I'm from Savannah and it's SO dog friendly, which is awesome! If you're looking to come down south again, I've heard Charleston is quite dog-friendly as well. Might have to do some research in terms of exactly how dog-friendly it is, but I think it's pretty similar to Savannah. I've also had friends tell me parts of Atlanta are as well.

If you're willing to explore out west a bit, I'm now in Colorado Springs and it's incredibly dog friendly out there! Lots of restaurants and stores, plus many, many trails that are dog friendly. Not all of them are intense hiking trails. We've had quite a few that are dispersed through the city, so there's no steep hills or terrain. They're all paved and run along the creeks/ditches in town. It's a great area, but might be a little farther out than you're looking.

Dogs are allowed at restaurants that have outside dining, many shops, hotels, as well as the beach, of course!
We also have many dog parks.

Yes, Oregon is definitely a great place for a dog. Our girl was born in Oregon and spent the first 2.5 years of her life there. We did so much camping and road tripping around Oregon (and WA and northern CA) when we lived there. Lots of camping trips to the dunes in Florence as well since we were only an hour east in Eugene. Running off leash on the beach and through the dunes was loads of fun, but those big waves could be a little scary.

We live in TN and would love to know about closer spots that are dog friendly should the husband and I ever decide to take a vacation...I have always wanted to visit Savannah so that is good to know we can take the hound without having to worry about boarding.

My sister lives in Denver, CO and there are dogs everywhere there! My sister even takes hers skiing/dirt biking/camping, etc.

Carmel Beach is off leash dog heaven, isn't it? We're only about 45 minutes away, so we we go down to Carmel beach about once a month.

We wanted a close get away for my wife's big "0" birthday, so we recently rented a place near Carmel Valley Village. It was beautiful. Just 20 minutes to the beach, and above the fog line. Lola was exhausted after day 4. :-)

Our other favorite on the West Coast is Dillon Beach (South of Bodega Bay). Another great off leash dog beach.

Bend is the best. We spent some time up there last month. It's never a question if dogs are allowed, it's just if they need to be on leash or not (and a lot of the time it's not). Everyone seems to have a dog with them, and everyone (dogs and people) we've met have been friendly. I hope to get back up there around Christmas for some fun in the snow. I think Thor wants us to move there.
