Like everyone said its nobody's business. I have 2 shelties from a reputable breeder. I didn't want a shy skitzy sheltie as working with dogs I've seen from shelties from puppy mills and back yard breeders.

I also have rescue dogs as well a toy poodle and a labx both are great dogs.

I've been doing more rescue work and fostering and the head person is totally against all breeding she's made comments to me about my "pure breeds" I just ignore the comments not worth stressing over.

I can't believe people actually have the nerve to ask how much you paid for your dog.

People are amazing with how nosy they can be. Pat and I were shopping for appliances the other day. I made a comment to Pat about how I preferred knobs beneath on a range top as opposed to on top. This lady came over and started grilling me why I preferred knobs beneath. I said because they stay cleaner that way. She then asked if we had kids, were planning on having kids because kids will accidentally turn on knobs beneath. I said it was really none of her business and we're not having kids in the next 5 years. She then told me how we should procreate immediately because we should have it all.

I had literally just met this woman and she came over to me and told me to go home and start having kids when I was shopping for appliances. She was a well-dressed, professional looking woman.

    People are just unbelievable.

I simply say that if people ONLY supported RESPONSIBLE breeders, there would be no need for rescues/shelters.

That's a whole other thread I could start...but I won't since it has nothing to do with dogs. I'm 30 and my husband is 36 and we've been married for 6 years. People are constantly questioning us, even STRANGERS, on why we don't have kids or when we're having one. It boggles my mind how nosey people are. I tell people we do have kids...1 cat and 1 dog!

Thanks again for all of the sweet comments. I'll continue to just ignore people who ask, or just tell them we bought him for hunting, which is true!

My two boys are both rescues, and they are the first dogs I have ever owned. I used to be of the mindset that I would always want all of my dogs to be rescue dogs. I love my dogs dearly, Tux especially is my heart dog and I can't imagine ever loving another dog as much as I love him. However they both have their issues that I probably wouldn't see in a well bred dog. Tux has allergies, I have spent lots of time and money there. And Cabo was on a tie-out for 13 months before I got him, he is very dog reactive and to some extent people reactive. Spent lots of time and money working on that too. I was taking agility classes with Cabo, and he is actually pretty good. However I would be way to nervous to take him to a trial, as I worry he would be off leash competing, see another dog, and make a bad choice. I have met many dog friends over the years and done a few different sports/activities with my dogs. It has really opened my eyes up as to why people do choose to get well bred dogs. Especially if you really enjoy a certain sport or activity, and want a breed that is likely to excel at that. Not to mention having more of a guarantee against health/behavioral issues. I do still want to continue to have rescue dogs, but can see myself getting a well bred dog someday, not necessarily a lab. Ideally I would be able to have both, lol.

Ok again, I totally agree some rescues are way over the top. Strict crazy rules and asking for way too much personal information. This is not hte norm. Like with breeders there are good and bad rescues. none of this or the paying $400 to apply applies to ANY of the rescues I know, frequent or volunteer for.

But yes the application asks questions so we know what the adopter wants in a dog so we can fit the right dog. Because people often want the cute dog even if it's totally not what they say they want - i don't believe in just adopting any dog to any family and "hope they figure it out".

When people ask us where we got Maverick from I tell them Georgia. They can come to their own conclusions. If they ask for price, we do not like to discuss that either. Usually they want to know if they got a better deal on their dog or how much we overpaid. Sometimes it feels like some people think it's a bragging right if they have a super cheap pure bred dog. Ugh.
