      Fireworks fort

Ram is terrified of fireworks and I have tried calming plug-ins and the thundershirt but neither made any difference with the pacing, drooling and trembling. We had our Victoria Day long weekend which means fireworks. On Sunday night we could hear fireworks and as usual Ram was a mess.

Last night again we could hear fireworks, so I thought I would try something new. I made Ram a fireworks fort with the cushions from the couch and chair but he wouldn't go in there alone. Yup, we sat in the there for about an hour until the bangs had pretty much ended and my cat Boots thought it would be cool to jump on the roof. Although this solution might rate high on the crazy scale, he just laid down in there and he was calm. Can't wait until the Canada Day long weekend, you know where to find us.

      Whatever works.

However, it would have been better if the picture was of the two of you in there, with the cat on top waiting to take the hit from the fireworks.

I am glad you found something that works. My Emma is also afraid of fireworks, gunfire, etc and the thunder shirt really helps her. It is really difficult to watch a dog melt down so whatever works is perfect!

I totally get this. It sounds like a good idea. Many a night I have lay in a dark closet with Lucy and we fell asleep together while tropical storms or fireworks were going on. I think I'd give this a try, I could probably peek out at the TV somehow, through a cushion corner, better than a boring closet.

I left an opening at the front so I could see the TV and the cushions do a good job to muffle the sounds.

LOL!! We do whatever works to soothe our pups! Although yes, I was also looking for the two of you peeking out too...

I think that was a brilliant idea. I had one a long time ago who was afraid of thunderstorms, she'd crawl behind the couch until the storm was over. I always felt bad for her, and just let her do what she needed to do to get through it.

With Ram still recovering from the tplo surgery, I had to find a way to stop the pacing more than anything.

You do what has to be done to keep your pup calm. Glad it worked.

That is hilarious. The things we do for our dogs. Next time, please provide a photo of the two of you inside the fort. I really want to see that.
