Ugh- my vet shared this. A brand of peanut butter, Nuts'n'More, is using Xylitol as an ingredient. Xylitol is being promoted as a healthy alternative to sugar for humans, but is deadly for dogs. I'm sure if Nuts'N'More is successful, or if xylitol becomes the new Splenda, we'll see it creeping into other brands of peanut butter. I'll definitely be checking the ingredients list of my store brands!

Thanks for sharing that. Mine rarely get peanut butter, that is a great reason not to give it at all. The last thing Maxx needs is extra calories anyway! I will stick to no fat, plain yogurt for his Kongs.

Thanks for the info. It seems like a brand geared toward fitness and workout types. I don't think it will necessarily "catch on" to the regular brands like Jiff etc. Its more of a specialized diet food but still good to know.
It's also in some gum. It could be accidental ingestion if the dogs gets something it's not supposed to.
In general I avoid anything advertised as using artificial sweeteners, or being sugar free (for the dogs). Have to also be careful about some yogurt and ice cream, if it is being promoted as diet friendly and low in sugar, that usually means artificial sweeteners or added, and I feel like any of that could cause the same reactions in dogs that xylitol does.

That is a very good point. It sent me running to the refrigerator to check the yogurt container! Thankfully no artificial sweeteners, it is actually low fat rather than non fat. I eat it also and I can not stand the taste of any type of artificial sweeteners. Thanks for that reminder!
