First time reading this story, how terrifying for both of you and I am so thankful she has done so well. I too would have done everything in my power to help my guy overcome it. Kimber is very lucky to have you!!

Thank you all. I know many of you were on the board and remember the story; I think it was kind of therapeutic for me to write it out.

Just to clarify: while they initially thought it was heatstroke, they ultimately concluded it was not heat-related. Given her chronic pain (controlled by rimadyl, thankfully), the most likely culprit was the bruised spine. The rehab vet asked us, "Did Kimber ever play rough? Did she fall odd or take a tumble?" and we had to half-laugh because she was such a flat-out, all-in labrador who did things like jump from the top of the A-frame, roll rump-over-teakettle chasing deer, bodycheck her best buddy, a Rhodesian Ridgeback who outweighs her by 50%... So the working theory is that she did something that made her backbone mobile, and that fateful night she moved just right so that it slipped up and hit her spine. It's unlikely but possible it could happen again, so we're supposed to try and minimize her twisting and jumping.

I remember it well. Frightening to read, and how frightening it must have been.

It's good to read how well Kimber is doing.

Kimber's story gives me chills and is probably one of the most inspirational I have ever heard. It really is amazing how far she has come. Kudos to you for never giving up!

I remember Kimber's story. She's come a long way and you are all so lucky that it is behind you, although the emotions and your love for her will always be right here and now.
