i went to work for four hours today and it felt like the longest 4 hours ever!! i couldn't wait to just get home to my girl again.
she heard me pull in and, as always, jumped up to look out the window. i found that reassuring and was happy when i came in that she TRIED to jump on me and needed to be corrected. she was wagging like a fool and making eye contact with me. she seemed much more like herself.
when i took her outside she dragged me around the front yard, smelled a bunch of stuff, rolled in a stink she particularly loved, and was acting pretty normal. she peed like normal and then pooped and kicked the grass over it with her back legs which i found reassuring. she then promptly gobbled her dinner and took her meds.
when my husband came home we were sitting and talking and she started crying as she was laying down. that sort of petered off until she was just sort of quietly crying. she did that last night and it almost sounded like a wheeze. it was freaking me out.
i called the vet AGAIN- who probably hate me at this point. they said if it sounded like a true wheeze to take her to Tufts as they were closing and the vet had left for the day. hubby and i decided to just keep an eye and agreed that if it happened again or we continued to be worried we would bring her to tufts. i also took a listen with my stethoscope although god only knows how useful that was... lol.. i'm used to listening to kids, not dogs. but she sounded clear to me.
when i took her outside again she was stopping in front of my car so i decided to go for a ride and pick up dinner and take her with me. she loved the car as always and seemed very happy. no more whiny wheezing. we ate dinner while she watched hopefully like always. she's asleep now.
i really really really hope tonight is peaceful. mostly for her obviously, but geez i'm exhausted.
really wish i didn't have jury duty tomorrow, grrr. im hopeful that i don't get picked and then can just go home and spend the rest of the day with her.

i really hope we're on the other side of this. what a yucky couple of days. thanks for all the support everyone... it means more than you know

    finally a good update!!!
we all slept well last night. she was much more bouncy this morning. she itched herself with her back foot and then let out a little cry so i really do think it's the hip that's bugging her
i had jury duty today but ended up not getting picked so i got to come home early. she's been much more herself since then. she ran around the back yard (until i stopped her ) and has been quick to spring up when she hears something like she always was. no hesitency to rise.

i did call and touch base with the vet who did everything. i said that she is still more vocal/oddly whiny than usual and she pointed out that she was in a crate, coming out of sedation, and there were a lot of dogs that day in the back barking at each other. so there's a very good chance she is hoarse. i'm sure she barked her head off... especilaly since she isn't crate trained. so that makes sense to me. i actually wondered yesterday if they had to intubate her or something since she sounds so irritated. (they did not)
we talked a litte bit more about what she saw and what the prognosis is. she says we're catching it very early and if we can shave a couple pounds off and get her on some supplements she thinks she'll do just fine. *phew* she said she has "the right owners" which was very very sweet. lord knows i have been absolutely nothing short of annoying these past couple days...

sounds like a VERY good update for your sweet Maggie! lots and lots and lots of dogs have HD and their owners don't know it. So you getting it diagnosed now and getting going on her care is great!
hopefully you two have a good day relaxing together. One of the best things some people say for HD is lots of muscle mass, so she needs to be active.
