Does she have to go to work with you? If it was my dog, I would rather leave her home than risk any number of dangers to her, myself or others by having her in the front seat.
I know it's not the best idea but I have tried everything with my dog. She is so noisy in the car, I can't concentrate. The only way she will stop whining, panting & trilling is if I sit with her in the back, let someone else drive, or she sits up front with me.
I have only done it once because it feels unsafe.
I have tried crate training but she is so resistant, the very back seat in my SUV & the middle seat. The closer to me she is the better but I know it's not the best. Help.!!!!

Have you tried a hammock seat cover? That way she can be in the seat directly behind you and yet still close to you. Bacon likes this because he can put his head on my arm rest and touch me. This is what I have Heritage Pet Car Seat Protector : Target
This is just another thing to possibly try.

Do you use both at the same time? I just want her safe & to lie down. She doesn't just get in the car & lie down. She never learned the down command as a hunting dog...............I have been working on it daily. She is still stressed & she sits up & is very unbalanced in the back seat. I put up a barrier so she wouldn't fall forward. I had her in the very back of the SUV for a while, very safe but the noise was unbearable at time. It looks like the hammock contains them so I will try.
Maybe that convertible you were talking about?
Yes I use both at the same time. The seat belt is important it restrains the dog keeps it in the back seat and from moving around too much and distracting the driver. Hemi can still go back and forth across the back seat but not forward. Also in a wreck it keeps the dog from becoming a 100lb projectile. The Hammock simply extends the seat so they can lay down or sleep up against the back of your seat.
You know also another thing that this may take is simply training. Make the car rides fun. Find places that are fun for the dog to go to and give them a reason to enjoy the car. When Hemi was a puppy we would just get in the car twice a day and drive around the block. Each time we got done treats and praise. Also there is a Mexican restaurant we go to and still go to all the time because they give Hemi a small handful of fresh baked unsalted nacho chips at the drive through. We did this the other day and I simply ask Hemi, should we go get some Nachos. He is like Oh heck yeah and runs to get in the truck. It's just a quick 10 minute drive and celebrated with Nacho's. This is all kind of like crate training or anything else you need to make it fun to go for car rides. You may have to work on this for a while.
Love the nacho chips story. Thanks for the reminders on this......making it fun & stuff. Getting in the car is "when I get CHEESE" would help. She will do anything for cheese. It's like walks down the main road in our neighborhood. She is still nervous about that street so I go at quiet times, only do two or three blocks & get her a "puppachino" at Starbucks. Hoping she will associate the busy street with something she likes. She has been on the elevator once.......I never force her to do things she is afraid of. I could write a book on bringing a country kennel dog to the city. She has had SO many changes in her life. She has been a real trooper. I'm so proud of her.

I am so glad she is starting to adjust. She has just the sweetest face! I would definitely give the cheese a try. Bacon associates certain things with hunting, like his ecollar and vest and riding in the truck, and he gets so excited, so maybe she can do the same with the car.
