I Have the Neatest Dog - A Compliment for Us This Morning

That's what the man said to me, "That's the neatest dog you have there. He came running around the corner, saw us, and just lay down. He's so polite."

Folks here have heard me say before that Oban does this lying down thing with many dogs we meet. Most folks who don't know him think it's submission but I call it his "I'm alone and unarmed" pose. In other words he wants to show he is not a threat. I'm so pleased with Oban sometimes and it's nice to have other people, strangers, think he's a nice boy.

Yesterday we met a new GR friend and then we met a man with a wee, tiny puppy. She was smaller than any of my cats, he said she was four months old and part JRT. Both Oban and the GR went up to meet the puppy, gave her a good sniff over, gently, and then went on to more interesting sniffs elsewhere. I'm so glad that wee puppy had a good experience with two big, new dogs. The man also had a nice chocolate Lab with him but I think this was the puppy's first outing to a place where she'd meet new dogs.

Thanks for reading, just wanted to share two nice encounters that made me smile.

Oban is a neat dog...and you deserve some credit for that, too.

That kind of thing is always so nice to hear, isn't it?

Ahh! Oban! Don't you love it when someone else loves your dog! I just adore it when someone comments on my boys at the dog park or while walking them. So nice!

Oban, you are such a gentleman. Great when others see that and compliment on his good manners.

It's funny that people almost seemed shocked when they encounter a well behaved dog. I get a lot of comments along the lines, "I wish my dog was that well behaved". I always thank them for the compliment and tell them how much hard work, time, and continual effort goes into it starting on day one, and it never stops.

Oban that is so cool doing the lay down on meeting people!!! I think that's awesome!

Thanks all. The man's dog was a Norwegian Elkhound and it's really the dog Oban lay down for, as he often does. He just does this on his own, no training from me. it sort of threw me, the man saying Oban was the "neatest." I took him literally and my first thought was, yeah? You didn't see us two days ago when I just barely got him distracted from the clay bottom mud puddle. Fortunately I did get him before he rolled in it and he stayed neat and tidy and clean from the bath he'd had recently to cure the smell from a previous roll in something rotten.

Now, jumping on people, that took some work from me.
